Am I the only one who ice fishes on here? Seems like almost everyone from northern climates on here don't transition to the hard water but just call it a year until ice out. I’ve spent thousands of hours on the ice over the years, chasing just about everything that’s in season at one time or another. I will admit though, as I’ve gotten older, my time in the ice has dwindled greatly. Some of it is due to being busy with work and other stuff, but I also don’t enjoy the cold like I used to. If I could launch the boat year round these days, that’d be just fine by me. 10 hours ago, A-Jay said: Had a nice dumping yesterday ~ Got a couple more inches overnight. A-Jay Boy did you ever! If you can keep it over on your side of Lake Huron, that’s be fantastic ?. Quote

We’ve seen a few flurries down here yesterday and I said thank you A-Jay for sending me some. Little did I know you were getting absolutely dumped on. I am not a fan of sitting on an ice cube fishing through a hole freezing my arse off. I'm not a fan of sitting on my arse dreaming about catching fish for four months. You'd be surprised how warm you can stay. With today's specially designed clothing and insulated portable shacks, that stereotype just doesn't match the reality anymore. 22 hours ago, Way north bass guy said: I’ve spent thousands of hours on the ice over the years, chasing just about everything that’s in season at one time or another. Yeah, it can get a bit frosty up here some years! Lots of lakes up here get enough ice to drive a truck on. I remember quite a few years ago I was working on an island cottage build in the winter. It was a huge cottage, there were about 30 guys working there most of the winter. Roads plowed in all different directions across the lake that year, we had about 36” of ice. I remember when everyone got out to the island, we just parked on the ice beside the cottage, and it looked like a Walmart parking lot out there ?. Quote
Black Hawk Basser Posted November 7, 2021 Posted November 7, 2021 I think we've gotten ice thick enough for trucks about 3 out of the last 10 years. Some years it's been sketchy even for foot traffic. Very hit and miss. Quote
Super User Boomstick Posted November 8, 2021 Super User Posted November 8, 2021 I generally dislike winter. But my youngest son is back to travel hockey (although fewer games due to fewer teams, somewhat covid related but more the older age group in this area). Then I have been working on my jazz and fusion guitar skills and finally getting it down. I've played a lot of rock and metal so this is new and fun. Quote
Fallser Posted November 12, 2021 Posted November 12, 2021 Last time I did any fishing was over Columbus Day weekend when I took my great niece fishing while visiting my niece and her family in Vermont. She's 3 years old and she got bored after about 20 minutes. I plan to do a little squirrel hunting over the next couple of weeks. Deer hunting is out. My shoulder can't handle the kick of my .270 anymore. I've got one spinning rod to repair, one to rebuild and another one to build over the winter. Make up some spinner baits, in-line spinner and hair jigs for my fishing buddies. Since I mainly fly fish, tie up a bunch of flies for next year's warm water season. 2 Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted December 6, 2021 Super User Posted December 6, 2021 We got blasted yesterday. (Red Zone) Spent 3 hours throwing that mess into the woods. Still coming down and there's another dumping on the way. Life in the Snow Belt ~ Good Times. A-Jay 2 Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted December 6, 2021 Super User Posted December 6, 2021 My home thermometer reached a whopping 12 degrees earlier...it's down to 9 now. Supposedly, we're looking at 40s later in the week...we'll see. Quote
Global Moderator 12poundbass Posted December 6, 2021 Global Moderator Posted December 6, 2021 Yup she’s pretty chilly out and that windchill was frigid! Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted December 8, 2021 Super User Posted December 8, 2021 Whelp - looks like the snow is on it's way. Not too much here, but SE MN is looking at some travel issues before the weekend Quote

I spent 3 Saturday's in a row cleaning the yard only to have my neighbors leaves blow in during Monday night's storm. At least the snow hides it until spring. ? We're expecting a couple of inches tonight with lows in the upper 20's. Next 10 days...50's to low 60's. Quote
The Baron Posted December 8, 2021 Posted December 8, 2021 Getting a little snow here in Kingston, ON today, but it's headed back up well into the plusses by Saturday with rain. We usually get yo-yoed in and out of cold and back and forth between snow-freezing rain-rain. Not usually crazy cold, but either way it's a long drag until turkey season and being out in a boat again. 1 Quote

I'm fine with a couple inches or so. Its when we get like 10 or 12 inches at a time it kinda sucks. Supposed to be quite warm next week though. Even a crack at 50 degrees. Quote

And I gotta run to Carver Saturday to pick up a couple things...might be engaging the 4WD for the first time this year. 1 Quote

For the past 40 years, the area around Ludlow and Plymouth Union. My sister had a place in the area. I fished the Ottauquechee River, Black River, Williams River, the lakes along RT 100, the White River and numerous brooks. She sold that a couple of years ago and brought a house in Waitsfield to be near my niece and her grandkids. Now I have a whole new area to explore. The Mad River for starters, Blueberry Lake. Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted December 10, 2021 Super User Posted December 10, 2021 Well, here we go...starting to remind me of October '91 when they kept upping the snow forecast. NOW they're saying 7"-12" for the metro...few days ago it was only suppose to be 1"-3" Quote
Super User gim Posted December 10, 2021 Super User Posted December 10, 2021 Won't take much movement north or south to change the totals either. Head just northwest and there's virtually no accumulation. Head slightly southeast and it jumps up significantly. I generally think they are trying to scare us with their weather terrorism, so I'll say 4 inches here. Quote
Super User soflabasser Posted December 10, 2021 Super User Posted December 10, 2021 South Florida recently had a day that the temperature dropped to 58 degrees which is cold for this time of year compared to previous years. In less than a week South Florida had a high of 87 degrees. Right now the weather is very nice. Quote

That has become a common thing here in Oklahoma the past few years in regards to tornado watches and warnings. I actually think it is in very poor taste to be telling folks that the worst is coming to install fear in people, especially the elderly. These days, if there is a storm with absolutely zero threat of a tornado, the major new stations will interrupt regular programming for hours on end showing the "storm chasers". IMO it has had the opposite effect of what the intended. I no longer take the threats seriously because of the side show it has become. 2 Quote

They haven't taken it to that extreme here yet, at least in terms of tornadoes. They're wrong way more than they're correct especially in terms of rain prediction. And yet they continue to do it every single day without any back lash. Lying for a living. What a life. Quote

I’ve been hollering that same story from the tops of mountains to anyone that can hear for a long long time. Thank you! Haha. If people would stop relying on weather predictions , they wouldn’t be able to forecast it incorrectly day after day after the advertising revenue dried up. But they keep clicking and changing it to the weather!!! 1 1 Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted December 11, 2021 Super User Posted December 11, 2021 Still got a bit - Maple Plain (north of me) recorded 5", Excelsior (south of me) recorded 7"...I'd say my backyard has around 5"-6" Further south, they got hit harder. Savage - 16.5", Shakopee - 14"...both south of the Minnesota River but not terribly far from me, so it was a steep curve to the amount. Quote

We need some cold so the lakes freeze and we can play in the snow. Quote
