Way north bass guy Posted October 22, 2021 Posted October 22, 2021 Well, looks like that dirty four letter word has decided to show itself for the first time here this year. Woke up to below freezing temps and flurries coming from the sky, and an icy back deck for the dogs to skate across for their morning rituals. Then I remembered that I had to check out a new project with a customer today, that happened to be about six miles up a big lake. That was not a very fun boat ride at all! I was gonna keep my boat out for a few more weeks still, but after this mornings freezing run, and the fact that I’ll have to tow my rig about 1/2 hour to it’s winter storage spot when I do get it winterized ( don’t want to leave it too long and have to tow it in snow/salty roads), I decided she’s getting prepped for hibernation this weekend. By the time I get done with deer season in a couple weeks, it’ll probably be too crappy out to fish much anyway. Next year when I get my shop setup properly here at our new place, the boat won’t have to be towed anywhere to its winter bed, so it’ll be fished out of until I can’t launch it anymore for lake ice. Hurry up spring!!! 2 4 Quote
Global Moderator 12poundbass Posted October 23, 2021 Global Moderator Posted October 23, 2021 This year is different for me, I’m actually welcoming winter. We’ve been so busy with work and it won’t slow down until the ground freezes so come on freezing temperatures! 1 Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted October 23, 2021 Super User Posted October 23, 2021 I'm planning on putting up the Pro-V Bass for the winter middle of next week. Always a bummer but it's got to be done. A-Jay 5 Quote

When I come back from winter break to NY again, that is the time of year that I just try to keep myself sane. Thinking of taking up some tacklemaking during that period of time…. Looking to tie some bucktail creations on my spinnerbaits and jigs Quote
Super User NorcalBassin Posted October 23, 2021 Super User Posted October 23, 2021 Did the least amount of fishing in years these past few months and hoping to get back on track with weekly trips very soon. After a dry start to fall we're forecast to get 5" of rain the next few days. My home lake is down >170 ft right now, so hopefully this starts turning it the other direction. Quote

Been a very good year so far. Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted October 23, 2021 Super User Posted October 23, 2021 I love the "cold" here in VA. Between low temps and hunting season, the lakes and rivers are pretty much empty. 1 Quote
Super User gim Posted October 23, 2021 Super User Posted October 23, 2021 I’ll be fishing one more time on Monday and then winterizing and hauling my boat away to my Fathers garage for the winter. Deer season starts in 2 weeks and there’s usually ice around Thanksgiving. After deer hunting I’ll be pheasant hunting through December. I’ve also got some yard work and leaves to take care of. I normally hang it up around Oct 10 or so but my Father has room in his garage this winter to store my boat so I was able to get a couple more weeks of fishing in this fall. Hopefully the water temp is still at least 50 degrees on Monday. It was 57 a week ago. Monday will mark my 31st outing this season. Last year I went 32 times, this year 31. 1 Quote

It’s been way too warm here this fall and deer movement is limited during the day when it’s warm out. It’s actually been the warmest calendar fall (sept-nov) on record so far. Activity has picked up in the past few days though with colder temps. Our gun season coincides with the rut here in early November. Quote
Super User Way2slow Posted October 24, 2021 Super User Posted October 24, 2021 I feel for ya'll, winter for us is those few months between Dec and Feb, the temps might drop into the teens for a few nights, but mostly in the mid to lower 20's is considered a cold night. That's spring time weather for the far north. 2 Quote

Sounds similar here, muzzleloader opens second week of November and that’s usually when the bucks get dropped 1 Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted October 25, 2021 Global Moderator Posted October 25, 2021 Gross, I was still catching them on topwater Saturday. Quote
Global Moderator 12poundbass Posted October 25, 2021 Global Moderator Posted October 25, 2021 First frost here yesterday morning and nice 33 degrees when it woke up. Today 46 and rain all day to the tune of 1-1.5” of the wet stuff. Quote
detroit1 Posted October 25, 2021 Posted October 25, 2021 I usually get out once in nov., then call it quits. It sucks. Bigtime. Quote
Smells like fish Posted October 25, 2021 Posted October 25, 2021 I don’t know if I’ll bassin again or not. One thing is for certain though, the whitetail woods are about to get interesting! 2 Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted October 27, 2021 Super User Posted October 27, 2021 This fall I've caught several catfish up shallow. The last time I caught them this way was 5 or 6 years ago and we had a very cold winter. Quote

Super User Log Catcher Posted October 28, 2021 Super User Posted October 28, 2021 Had a low of 32 degrees here this morning. I was hoping to get a couple of more trips in but now they say we have a bunch of rain coming starting tomorrow. Guess I'll think about winterizing and putting my boat to bed for the winter. Quote
