papajoe222 Posted October 21, 2021 Posted October 21, 2021 It's advertised as a Hyper CoPolymer, Advanced Monofilament with better abrasion resistance, lower stretch and more sensitivity than regular mono. So, I bit and bought a spool in 8lb. test. I've had one of my baitcasters spooled up with it for a few days and went to rig up for an outing tomorrow. I'm impressed with the line's memory, or should I say the reduced amount I'm seeing. I didn't condition the line when spooling and although there are loops in the line, they aren't small, tight loops like I get with Original Stren, or Big Game. As I stated, I haven't actually fished using this line and I'm wondering if I've found the 'Holy Grail' of monofilaments. Anyone tried this line willing to give your opinion? 1 Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted October 21, 2021 Super User Posted October 21, 2021 I've got 10# on my jerkbait rig. I did use KVD on it and it seems pretty limp for a copolymer line. I'll probably keep that on the rig for next year...still loving my 12# YZH for the crank rig though. 1 Quote
Super User FishTank Posted October 21, 2021 Super User Posted October 21, 2021 I tried it (multiple spools) and it was the opposite of everything it said on the box. Maybe in a different pound test it will be better but what I had was not for me. I have moved on to Sunline Defier. Way more expensive but great line. Worth the price over most other mono? > Maybe .... It lasted 2 seasons, which is a lot longer than any mono I have used, and still going. Quote
Super User T-Billy Posted October 21, 2021 Super User Posted October 21, 2021 I tried it when it first came out. I liked it, but it ain't the game changer the advertising claims it is. It's slightly lower stretch and less bouyant than XT, but has more memory. I think it's good line, but not worth the price tag to me. I'm still with good ol Trilene XT. Quote
Super User jimmyjoe Posted October 21, 2021 Super User Posted October 21, 2021 Most of the advertised characteristics of Advance can be explained by its larger diameter, which provides more volume for chemical treatments. jj Quote
Hulkster Posted October 21, 2021 Posted October 21, 2021 my holy grail of mono is actually Sufix Siege. I love it and use it on all my setups both spinning and casting. I haven't tried Advance yet but Siege is so good I kind of don't want to change. Quote
Eric 26 Posted October 21, 2021 Posted October 21, 2021 I like it enough that I bought the super size spool? I use it for pretty much everything but my frog setup. 2 Quote

Super User Dwight Hottle Posted October 21, 2021 Super User Posted October 21, 2021 I have been using it for several years. ?? 1 Quote
The Baron Posted October 21, 2021 Posted October 21, 2021 I tried it this year. Put 8# on spinning gear and was not happy at all as it seemed to "jump" off the spool. But, I put 10# on a baitcaster setup for squarebills/shallow cranks and really like it. So much, that I also spooled my newest baitcaster setup with the 10# for deeper cranks and lipless (might try with jerkbaits too). Advance floats so I know I'll lose some depth, but my one and only experience with straight fluoro lasted about 20 casts before it blew up and I had to cut it off. That, and reading about how fluoro stretches a lot more than advertised and should be replaced a few times per season makes me more than happy to give up a few feet of depth to save a lot of money and headaches. It's funny how much our satisfaction and happiness depends on choosing the right combination of compromises. That goes for fishing, and a heck of a lot of other things, too. jj 1 Quote
Steveo-1969 Posted October 21, 2021 Posted October 21, 2021 I have been using Sufix Advance mono in 10# on a baitcaster for several years and for me it IS the holy grail of mono! I use this rod almost exclusively to fish finesse jigs in a shallow rocky river. The line needs to be abrasion resistant because of the rocks, sensitive so I can feel rocks, branches, weeds, fish, etc. and low stretch so when I set the hook it doesn’t feel like a rubber band. Sufix Advance mono (at least in 10# on a baitcaster) checks all these boxes for me. And it’s not expensive. I use KVD L&L or Bass Pro Shops line conditioner (sacrilege!! Haha). No problems with memory or coiling. 3 Quote
Eric 26 Posted October 21, 2021 Posted October 21, 2021 I forgot to mention in my original post, I didn’t use line conditioner when spooling reels or at all for that matter, I think I’ll pick up a bottle of KVD conditioner based on the many recommendations on this site. 1 Quote
Kevhead19 Posted October 22, 2021 Posted October 22, 2021 I use a good deal of Sufix Advance Mono as mainline or leader for braid and really enjoy it. I'm not a fan of fluoro but I'll pay attention the diameter of fluro others suggest and use the closest I can get in the Advance Mono. The approach has worked well for me since it's a thicker line. The other mono I really like is Sunline Machinegun Cast but that is really, really expensive for what it is and bought out a bunch of it when sunline had it direct on clearance for $6 a spool or so.
