A PVC based soft plastic will retain a PVC based enfused oil blend for a considerable amount of time. Silicone(i.e. z-man) will do the same s For a silicone lubricant, however finding a garlic scented silicone lubricant is nearly impossible and either way it is still an oil base. Lastly we have the ever so rare water soluble scents produced by Berkley which start out as an oil base and they have a che.ical emulsifier mixed into them which allows them to actually be detected by a fish while underwater even if the fish doesn't have the lire in its mouth. Now... here is the juice--> Oil based scents are OIL BASED therefore not water soluble and it acts as more of a flavoring aroma profile for AFTER the fish pick it up. (Makes em hold onto it longer) Bang and jj's and a slew of others are alcohol diluted and can and will ruin the structural integrity of a PVC bait over time and use, due to the nature of the relationship between alcohol and oil. To sum it all up I would say this, Bass are sight feeders, unlike dogs who rely on scent. These oils and alcohols give you merely an extra second to set the hook on a finicky bass is all. The best lubricants and scents to use are ones like what my company produces as long as you use them in the bag on PVC baits only. It will last years with just 7 drops. However nothing replaces good old skill and sensitive rods reels and line. We are just trying to buy the average Joe just one extra second to set the hook is all. The bait and angler do all the work. Not the scents. What company are you with ? I would like to purchase some of your product. 1 Quote

So if you think it helps then use it! The same thing can be said about profile. Or color. Or whatever. 2 Quote
Super User TOXIC Posted October 22, 2021 Super User Posted October 22, 2021 I can tell you this…my brother in law opened a bag of Chompers garlic scented craws in my boat and I thought I was fishing inside an Italian restaurant the rest of the day. Strongest scent I have ever smelled. 2 2 Quote

Since I put my soft plastics in a storage box, I regularly spray them down with Bang spray, mostly to keep them lubricated. However, I've noticed that z-man lures seemed to soak up the spray or even pro cure or liquid mayhem. Do conventional PVC based soft plastics absorb scents in the same way? Yum advertises a formula on their plastics and you can feel and smell it out of the bag, powerbait IMHO has the strongest scents out of the pack 1 Quote
CrashVector Posted October 22, 2021 Author Posted October 22, 2021 I'm of the school that bass are like lions: they hunt primarily by sight, and scent/flavor only really matters on highly reluctant bass or after they've bit a lure. I don't add any sense to my baits except for spraying them with lubricant while they are in my tackle boxes, mostly just to keep them from sticking together but if the scent attracts fish then I guess I'm getting a side benefit. 1 Quote

Super User J Francho Posted October 22, 2021 Super User Posted October 22, 2021 I agree, but the point stands - no one can really know. It's always a guess. 1 Quote

That's why I'm undecided on scent. At this point everybody has a few basic shapes, colors and sizes they rely on that produce for them for whatever reason- Also most guys have some spots that always produce a few bites for them. I have never caught a bluegill or shad or crawfish that smelled like coffee or garlic but those are two of the best selling scents I can think of. Do they really help? Sure..why not Quote
