If you're an experienced angler, I'm sure this has happened to you; You read or hear something fishing related that makes you say to yourself 'what'd he say' because what you heard was so far off topic or inaccurate that you can't believe he just did.  When it comes out of the mouth of a pro, or the pen of an experienced outdoor writer, you wonder what the guy's been smoking.  Knowing what you know, you shake your head and laugh it off.

For those new to the sport and searching for knowledge, not knowing that can put your progression back years.  So before you run to your LSG to pick up a pack of 4in. french fry worms and 1/16oz jig heads because some guy said or wrote that combo is a great search bait, or top-water only works early or late in the day, hold off jumping on or off the bandwagon.  Read or listen to what proceeded or followed and if you start to question the accuracy, do just that...........Ask Questions.

What a great post. Yeah man, I am pretty low on the totem pole on this site in terms of experience and age so I’m a learner who’s also here to share what little I’ve experienced.

When I was first learning to fish, YouTube was a great resource. Because I can SEE what is happening. I picked up a lot of useless/wrong info there too. But it was an essential stepping stone.

Nowadays, it’s time on the water and bassresource for me. I won’t have it any other way.

It is not really like that, It is like they are teaching you how to read the condition and write the story, It is up to you depending on what condition you get the result.

one day I was in a lake and I try to catch bass for couple hours and I couldn't catch any, I did try TX rig and jig and swim bait 4'.

when I got tired I said let me use my BFS set up to catch some trout for dinner tonight!!! In my 3rd cast I got 1.5lb bass in my 5th cast I catch a 2lber and after about 2min I catch another 1.5lber bass.

three bass less than 30min with 1/8oz jighead with 1 inch minnow, and I was killing myself to catch them for two hours.

So really it is really depends to your situation. The pro is right, he is getting results by that specific lure/technique but it doesn't mean you'll get also in same day. maybe other day and other place it will work for you.

What they don’t tell you is how dialed in they are to a specific place and bait and how long it took them to ‘figure’em out’
Weekend guys (like me) make me laugh when they show up with all this sh** because they been reading and watching guys drop shot on the Great Lakes.

That 3 foot deep, black, 93 degree Florida water brings them back to reality in a hurry.

Next time, put a red treble in the front.  It makes the hook invisible.

They bite the bait in where they can't see the hook.

Agreed.  Granted I'm a lousy bass fisherman but my two best lures ever and I still use them with very good success aren't even mentioned by the pros.

The ones recommended by them I've bought and NEVER even got a strike on one.  Even different sizes and weights.

I guess whatever works for you works for you.

I doubt they would work for anybody else.

“Don't Belive Everything You Read/Hear” - probably should just leave it at the title and not go beyond that. The differences of opinion you get on some subjects on these forums, and we’ve all seen and been a part of these multipage drawn out threads, can be just as confusing and “unhelpful” as a “pros” or “writers” advice or story you mention. Knowledge and information sharing has never been greater, but that has its own downside to it. You’ve got to figure out some way of cutting through the “noise” and huge variety of opinions, otherwise it will be a long, expensive journey.

I have yet to see a bait that I felt would not catch a fish.

Lol!  Fortunately, everyone has smart phones now so "pix or it didn't happen."  In a few years, consumer photo editing software may have sufficiently good AI/ML that they can create "deep fakes" so photos won't be valid proof anymore.

I agree @papajoe222.  I've read a lot of good books on fishing.  Most of them at some point say something that is scientifically/factually wrong.  For example,  Rolland Martin's book is excellent but repeats the myth that bass must avoid sunlight because they don't have eyelids.  I think pros are pros mostly because they are very good with a rod and reel in their hands.  They can be just as susceptible to misinformation and misinterpretation of information as the rest of us.   It's also important to remember that most of them are being paid to promote the idea that the solution to catching more fish can be found at your local tackle store.

Great.... Now the secret is out. Bass will be conditioned to it and stop biting it within a week. ☹️

And why would what we say be of any more value than what a pro says? Your post essentially flowed into "don't necessarily believe the pro, but ask here and believe us, but also don't believe what you read"

I rely primarily on past experiences when I fish.  Although I definitely feel like I could learn more, my 20 years of fishing this area has taught me a lot.  I'm skeptical of vague suggestions from someone in a completely different part of country than I am.
