Dave0408 Posted October 17, 2021 Posted October 17, 2021 So I’m going to start throwing a 1/2oz spoon to catch freshwater Redfish. I thought I’d get a heavy rod to use it for bass in and around cover too. Plan to pair it with a Curado DC reel. Fishing from a Kayak. What do you guys think? Sound like a good combo to you? Any suggestions? 1 Quote
Phil77 Posted October 17, 2021 Posted October 17, 2021 Get a Scorpion DC it has the I-DC5 brake system which to me is better than the I-DC4 on the Curado. Probably not much difference in price if you shop around. Quote
Aaron_H Posted October 17, 2021 Posted October 17, 2021 Would be a nice combo for that, if a little on the heavy side. I have a 7'2" H/F Shimano rod that I use for frogs and it casts 1/2 oz alright, but definitely a bit stiff for that weight; it loads up much better around 3/4-1 oz. Personally, I'd go with the 7'2" MH/F, more than enough backbone for bull reds and more versatile for bass. I would think the heavy would be overkill unless you're fishing thick marshes or around dense cover, but it certainly would not be a poor choice if you go with it. Quote

I’ve never owned a Heavy rod before. Maybe I’ll spring for the MH/F Expride! 1 Quote

Any suggestions? I have a Curado DC that I bought for my fiance to use in her kayak. I paired it with an Abu Garcia SilverMax med.heavy rod. It's a 24ton modulus rod from a SilverMax combo. She absolutely loves the setup, and I've used it a few times as well and think it's a good fit. Quote
Dave0408 Posted October 19, 2021 Author Posted October 19, 2021 I’m going 7’2 MH Expride with a Scorpion reel. 1 Quote
