Cody28 Posted October 16, 2021 Posted October 16, 2021 I have been looking into grabbing a bigger net because the one I am currently using is the small type you clip to your belt while wading. Mainly have looked into the YakAttack Leverage Landing Net. I have 14 foot aluminum boat with a self made deck so there is not a ton of space and I don't like having stuff everywhere to trip over. With that being said what are your thoughts on this net? Does it fold up nicely? Does the odd handle get in the way when storing? Any other nets you'd suggest instead? Quote
txchaser Posted October 17, 2021 Posted October 17, 2021 I have that net and it works for me. Primary use is a similar sized boat. Be aware of a few things 1) Because of the curve in the handle it will take a wider space to store it. 2) It is well-suited for landing at kayak height; if you are standing on a deck you won't like it at all 3) The hoop is compact given what it is made for...which requires some finesse on 25" fish... go headfirst not sideways. With all that, it's nearly perfect for a one-handed net. 1 Quote

In your opinion is the trade off worth it or should I go with something that has a longer handle? Quote
Super User J Francho Posted October 19, 2021 Super User Posted October 19, 2021 I used the Leverage Landing Net for years before Yakattack took over the product. I now use a Frabil Bear Claw and love it. It's much more compact and easier to deal with in the kayak. Quote

Super User J Francho Posted October 19, 2021 Super User Posted October 19, 2021 It's fine. I don't always use a net for pike, though. Quote

Surprise pickerel are what I really want a net for, the little ones that are too small to get a lip gripper easily attached too. Quote
Super User Boomstick Posted October 20, 2021 Super User Posted October 20, 2021 I use a YakAttack landing net. I keep it in a YakAttack Zooka II rod holder pointed slightly at me from the side rail in the back of my kayak. I also looked at the Frabil Bear Claw which honestly looks like it's smaller, more compact and a little better designed for single-handed usage but I went with the YakAttack because my kayak doesn't have any elastic or mesh to store it under and I can't stick it in a rod holder. I like how flat the bearclaw is, but it looks like a shorter reach too. Now that I've seen it, for my needs I'd probably get the bearclaw and second true full-handle net if I had to do it over again.
