I have a 01 bass tracker pro crappie 175 and currently have a minn Kota edge 55 lb. I’m wanting to go to a 24v minn Kota with spot lock. I already have a a spare battery and know you have to tie them together but I was wondering is there anything else I need? Will the stock wiring handle a 24v trolling motor? I was also wondering about the trolling motor plug up front? I’m sure the 24v won’t fit in the plug in. I was wondering if you guys can help me out on all the parts I need so I can make one order. Which minn Kota tm withspot lock would you guys recommend ?
Thank in advance for the help.

Your current wiring is probably not ideal and might be too small.  Find out what gauge wire you currently have and compare that to what is recommended in the manual of your new TM.  I would remove the plug and wire directly to the trolling motor.   Also,  when wiring batteries in series to get 24 volts it’s best if your batteries are the same model and age.

And don't forget a quality circuit breaker at the batteries.  Do you have an onboard charger?  If so, does it support 3 banks?

The cable that goes from the positive on one battery to the negative on the other battery needs to be thick. Like maybe 2 ga. The female plugs  you can usually find at wal mart or academy/bass pro/west marine type store

You will have to replace the plug receptacle/trolling motor plug, trolling motor wiring to the batteries and install a circuit breaker. No way a 01 boat was designed to handle the the 24v or 36v spot lock trolling motors nowadays unless you buy a terrova 12v which deploys completely different than your edge.

Going with a terrova 12v means you don't have to change the wiring, etc. but may not be the type of trolling motor you are used to.

Everything above that has been mentioned is not just recommendations but necessities. Your wiring both to the TM and to connect batteries, batteries, breaker, plugs, charger and probably the most important is the knowledge to do it safely and proper. Good luck on your endeavor

Thanks for this thread.  I recently bought a 99 Nitro with a 50lb motorguide that worked in 12 or 24 and is currently wired for 24.  I bought a 24v Terrova and was going to just leave the wiring but now have just gone ahead and ordered all the wiring and fuse to upgrade when I install the new motor thanks to this thread.

Since you only have the option of 80lb in 24v, looks like if your current wiring is the correct size, you shouldn't need to replace it.
