spoonplugger1 Posted November 26, 2021 Posted November 26, 2021 I've fished LMB, SMB, crappie, panfish, shad and low, gin clear, summer steelhead and trout on #1 & 2 spinners and super small drift gear, an accidental 12 lb coho salmon, and 15 lb spring chinook on a #1 Dick Nite spoon sporting a #8 siwash hook while shad fishing. Your son will love that rod, I have no doubt. Quote
Alex from GA Posted November 28, 2021 Posted November 28, 2021 Bottom contact baits require the most sensitive rods. Worms and jigs. 1 Quote
Super User MickD Posted November 28, 2021 Super User Posted November 28, 2021 And tubes and Neds and wacky and drop shot and when you want the longest possible casting distances (higher modulus rods have higher recovery speeds which impart higher velocities to the lure being cast). But if one is not using braid with these techniques he is not taking advantage of the single largest sensitivity improvement available. In my opinion it is more important than high mod rods. Quote
Super User fishwizzard Posted December 2, 2021 Super User Posted December 2, 2021 To piggyback on this thread a little, does anyone have thoughts on the 76MLXF blank as a drop shot rod? I think I want a long casting rod for DS fishing and obv factory options are not really there. I tend to use either 1/8 or 3/16oz weights and my "toughest" hookset will be a 6" Robo on a thin-wire 2/0 straight shank hook. I fish a DS cast-n-drag, stopping to shake when the weigh hangs on something. I fish a lot of soft bottoms so I need to find a balance where the tip is soft enough to get a good shake but stiff enough to un-snag the weight when it gets caught in the muck. Quote
spoonplugger1 Posted December 3, 2021 Posted December 3, 2021 An extensive review of the rod was done at Tackletoour some years ago, it was in their top tier of reviewed rods. Take a look at what they said about it. Quote

Super User MickD Posted December 27, 2021 Super User Posted December 27, 2021 Hard to beat SCV material, and the variety offered is almost unbelievable. Quote
Bdnoble84 Posted April 2, 2023 Posted April 2, 2023 This sounds like a perfect blank for the application. I have a lower grade mlxf bassx in 6’10 and that works well for small hair and marabou. I would imagine the huge stepup to the scv 7’6” would be phenomonal for a multitude of reasons. Quote
