Hi All,  I just ordered a Megabass Orochi XX Perfect Pitch Rod, and I would like all your expert opinions on what line brand and weight/# to use for all the different techniques/baits this rod can handle.  From what I have read this rod can handle (Texas rigs, jigs, frogs, small swimbaits, small umbrella rigs, oversized squarebills. Magnum bladed jigs, mag topwaters, light flipping/punching).  Not sure what size/weight for each of these techniques/baits?

So my questions are, assuming from a frog point of view, that I use straight braid 30,40,50,65#, can I use one of these weight/# braids and still just add a leader of Fluro/Mono, (what brand and #, and what length leader for each technique) for each of these other techniques/baits?

Just to give you some background, this is my first post, and I am an ol guy that is getting back into Bass fishing.  There was a time I wanted to be a professional Bass fisherman.  I even attended a Don Iovino seminar way back when, late 70's, early 80's not sure, been so long.  Met a women, marriage, kids, grandchildren, fast forward, and here we are.

I really appreciate all of your input, I am stuck here in So Cal for at least another year, however I will be moving eventually to hunt for Bass.

Thank you!

I use the Perfect Pitch mostly for Dark Sleepers and Texas rigs. Have experimented with 30 lb braid and fluorocarbon.  I could be happy using either but went with 15 lb Abrazx earlier this year and it seems like best option. If I used the rod to frog more I’d opt for braid but I have a dedicated frog rod already.

I own this rod and I use 30# suffix 832 and if I'm not fishing a frog tie on a leader so the fg knot is just outside my reel to allow for several re-ties. Going to be several factors that would change what leader but personally most common for a jig or Texas rig I use seaguar red label 12 or 15# because it does the job and is reasonably priced. Bigger top water, I'd probably use good old trilene xl 14#. It's a good rod I'm sure you will enjoy.

Mine is rigged with a Daiwa Catalina with 50lb braid to a 16lb Sunline Leader.  Magdrafts, frogs, jigs, big wakes and flipping.

Thank you for your reply!  So potential 30# braid (What brand) with 15# Fluro leader, if I wont to keep a frog tied?  Otherwise straight 15# Fluro.

Thank you for your reply!  So potential 30# braid with a frog tied, or 12-15# Fluro without the frog, and 14# mono for bigger top water baits.

Thank you for your reply!  This is interesting, so just going 50# braid, (what brand), and using 16 # Fluro leader.

Thank everyone for all of the replies, I appreciate it.  I would love to here from others so I can make a decision on what approach to go with.  Maybe I am asking too much to use one rod for so many techniques?  At some point I will build up different setups to handle isolated techniques, just trying to start somewhere to get my feet wet.  Thank you all!

I usually use Sufix 832 braid 30 lb, with either Yo-zuri 12 lb or Abrazx 15 lb for a leader (they are similar diameter). If I were to frog exclusively I'd probably got to either 40 or 50 lb 832 braid w/o leader. I will say if not frogging or T-rigging in the heaviest of slop - a straight spool of just Abrazx 15 pound has been my preference.

I run 50lb power pro and just add the leader as needed based on clarity and bait.
