Just wondering if you take the key out before you head to the lake, or just leave it in the ignition of the boat?

Anyone ever had the key fall out on the road??

i leave the key on my wrist, with a stretchy band untill the boat is prepared to launch, then the key goes in the ignition just before the boat goes in the water.

I guess my key comes out but have never tried to see if it does.  It does have the keys to the rod and storage lockers on the ring with it but I never lock them either, so see no reason to take it out.

Besides, if it fell out, it would just fall on the floor.

well i have to take mine out, i store it in the back of a friends auto repair shop.  the area is locked but during the day when he is there the gates are open so i take the key out to be safe.

After losing the keys last year at the ramp (in the lake) I took Jack's advice.  My keys will never leave the ignition.  I also zip tied a set under the console and in the truck just in case.

I will never be stuck at the ramp before a tourney because of a lost set of keys again........

I keep my key in my truck that way I am never at the ramp without it.

LOL. I am way to paranoid for that. Probably don't need to be but I am. My key stays with me. It does not go into the ignition until someone is in the boat.

I just have thoughts of some jughead jumping in and tearing off with the boat and insurance would say it was my fault cause I left the keys in there.

When I bought my boat I was lucky enough to get 3 sets.  I have one set in the ignition at all times, one in my glove box, and one set at home.

I used to leave mine in the ignition until one day when a bunch of us 7 boats, were having a mini tournament at our local lake. When we all stopped for breakfast 5 of us had left our key in the ignition. We finished breakfast and drove the 4 minutes to the lake. Upon our arrival the 5 of us who had left our key in the ignition discovered that our keys were missing.

Luckly 4 of us had a spare key in the truck and the unlucky one did not................ Yep, my spare key was at home.

That's not paranoia, that's discretion.

If the key is in the ignition, I"m in the boat.

My boats keys don't leave my left-front pocket until I board the boat,

and are back in my pocket before I step out of the boat.

(I also keep a spare set of boat keys in the glove box of the tow vehicle)

Since once driving 35 min to the lake without the key, I now leave it in the ignition. I also have a spare in the boat. When I ordered the spare from the Honda dealer, I assumed they were like auto ignitions with unique keys for each serial number. I was surprised that they made one key for all Honda ignitions. They might as well just use a non-keyed start switch and save the hassle.

I leave the key in the ignition. If I stop somewhere with the boat uncovered I'll throw them in the van.

Mine stays in the ignition 24/7. All my boats in the past have been the same way too. But i keep mine in the garage.

I keep my key on a keychain with foam float in the boat glove box  and only insert in ignition at the ramp. An extra set of truck keys is also no the keychain just in case.

Key stays in the ignition.

X2  ;)

I keep the boat keys on the same keychain as my tow vehicle, with a spare set of both keys kept in the boat's toolbox.

Ditto. And if it were to fall out during driving, I believe it would simply fall in the floor - I do need to put my extra key though in my truck just in case.

No.  It stays in my truck.  My boat plug is attached to it, so when I get ready to start the motor I get a reminder to install the plug.
