ajschn06 Posted October 11, 2021 Posted October 11, 2021 So I am looking at two particular Falcon rods: Falcon Bucoo SR 6'10" Pitch'n Stick Falcon Lowrider 6'10" Heavy Now to me, when I think heavy action or "pitch'n" stick... there is generally some sort of heavy cover involved, but both of these rods are rated 1/4-3/4 oz. I know rod ratings aren't exact and they change from company to company, but that's a weight range I would more associate with a medium action stick. I'm looking to use this rod for moderate cover froggin. Will they have enough or do I need to look elsewhere? It's tough to find something good under 7' for frogs.... 1 Quote
tander Posted October 11, 2021 Posted October 11, 2021 Might want to look at the Falcon Carolina Lizard Dragger. It is heavy action, 7', 12-25# test, 3/8oz to 1oz. I use it for froggin, pitching, and of course carolina rigging. Mine is the older USA made Lowrider so the new ones might be different but is probably the same. 1 Quote
Weslewis Posted October 11, 2021 Posted October 11, 2021 I have the lowrider 6 10 heavy and i initially bought it for the same purpose but it has became my spinnerbait chatterbait rod. It had way more bend to it than what i expected when i ordered it . Love the rod though, cant go wrong with falcon Quote

I can find plenty of 7’ rods that fit the bill for this purpose, looking for one under 7. Quote
Derek1 Posted October 13, 2021 Posted October 13, 2021 Give them a call. They are very cool and helpful. The tech’s out back would love to talk shop with you and point you in the right direction after you tell them what you want. It might end up being a completely different rod then you think. Quote
Super User the reel ess Posted October 13, 2021 Super User Posted October 13, 2021 I have that Pitchin' Stick model and I love it. Light as air, very sensitive and tough. It has a great tip for pitching and a lot of backbone for pulling fish from heavy cover. I like the shorter length. I fish from a kayak and get pretty close to the cover I pitch to. I've been using it a couple years with zero complaints. Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted October 13, 2021 Super User Posted October 13, 2021 Never heard of a Heavy action. Do you mean a Heavy power? EDIT: I know what you mean, and am not picking on you specifically. I see professionals saying the same thing and it gets my goat. I understand newbies not knowing the difference at first, but professionals and youtubers doing it? 3 Quote

It's not something I do regularly, but I'd like to have something that I can use on occasion for that, and not really interested in a dedicated type of setup that would be traditionally used for Frog fishing. I'm not super picky, and it's not ridiculously heavy cover I'm in. I've used a medium action rod (can set the hook, getting them out is another story) and a standard MH (3/8-1 oz fast) someone successfully in the past. Quote

But I like a little longer, heavier rod. My frog rod is 7'3" XH-XF. I kayak fish so this helps me lift fish out of the weeds. Before I had this frog rod I used an older MH Falcon Lowrider that was actually a heavy cranking rod. You do what you have to to get by. On the other hand the 6'10" pitching stick will cast better. It has a much better tip. As such, it would be better for open water. 1 Quote

I like the short rods, and my boat won't store anything over 6'11" - so I've learned to make due with them pretty well. I've never run into an issue getting distance on my casts.... appreciate the feedback. 1 Quote
jbrew73 Posted October 15, 2021 Posted October 15, 2021 For a few years I used my Falcon Bucoo pitchin stick for frogs. I wouldn’t recommend it to bomb casts deep into pads but for close work and moderate cover it worked great. 1 Quote

rtwvumtneer6 Posted October 16, 2021 Posted October 16, 2021 Food for thought. I know you ruled out the 7' rod but... I was using the 7'4 heavy cover jig rod for frogging. I also wanted a shorter rod, and a shorter handle for walking the bait. The LowRider model in the 7' Heavy (Lizard Dragger) has a shorter 13-1/2" handle. Agree with @Derek1 give them a call. Everytime I have, I could tell the person I talked to fished and wasn't just reading off specs. Both BuCoo or LowRider are great sticks at their price point. They are starting to take over my arsenal and I'm a long way from Oklahoma. Quote

I was all set to buy it but it was sold out at the time I was looking. But it's supposed to be the ultimate C-Rig rod but should have enough backbone for moderate cover frogging. 1 Quote
