My physician (Dr. John Verheul) suggested to Elaine and to me that we purchase the above book and complete it so when we ‘check out’ our spouses, children, girl friends, boy friends, and CPAs will have the information needed to make a Veterans Administration, Social Security, and other benefits plus life insurance claim, burial services wishes, business details, and any other claims or information you wish to include.

Yes, we do not like to discuss our “checking out” but it is of utmost importance that you consider purchasing this book and having it in a place where it can be easily noticed when the time arrives.

And for you veterans or spouses who are veterans, the Department of Veterans Services will make a presentation on your veterans benefits when you pass away.

Don't think this book is for us old guys. Everyone needs to consider what will happen when we check out at any age and this book fills the bill.

Just letting you all know as I mentioned this at my last American Legion EXCOM meeting and the guys were somewhat surprised that this type of publication existed.

Enjoy!!!!!

My father passed in 1978 of a sudden heart attack.  I was 31 at the time and found myself overseeing all the family business.  In my father's desk was a small box of index cards.  He had taken the time to write down everything I needed to know.  Military numbers, bank accounts, insurance info, pension with contact numbers and addresses.  It sure made my life a whole lot easier.  I can't imagine what I would have had to go through without it. Do your kids a favor and make this happen.

Good sound advice, because we all know it’s not gonna happen to us anytime soon.

Good information.  I’ve been thinking a lot lately about this topic.  In the old days,  people could figure out a lot just by reading your mail after your gone.  When a bank sends you a bank statement,  your relatives know you have an account there and can act on it.  In today’s paper free online world there’s no way for them to know unless they have a way to read your email.  My wife knows what to do if I check out unexpectedly.   If we both go at the same time in an accident, it would be very bad.  I need to fix that.

Dad and mom have been set up for years...as they're both 87 and in failing health, it's not going to be long - couple years maybe.

Cremation - pre-paid

Burial plots - Ft. Snelling National Cemetery...already reserved (Dad's a Navy vet)

Accounts - sister has all the info...she's also the executor.

Jukebox....You are old

Mom passed last year and dad got all his affairs in order for his time to go. All the kids have copies of the trust.

I have to redo all my stuff. My will and living will was done when my son was a minor(now 31) and mom was in charge of my estate(or lack there of) as well as my DNR on the living will. I've been putting off getting everything updated for no other reason than I'm lazy about it.

This book is a fantastic idea but you MUST secure it in a safe deposit box in a bank or in a safe (huge or bolted to the floor) in your home once you have filled it out.  Tell your loved ones where it is and how to access it but don't risk it being stolen in a burglary to your home.

14 years ago when my son was born, my parents gave me copy of a paper under my sons name, They said when he is 20 he can have this 6digit amount for him, If he wait till 30 years old it guarantee that it will be 7 digit. so in any case he doesn't want it ,  it will be mine and in any case I am not here it will be taken by my younger brother.

So my father kinda did that for me and even for my son.

I in other hand build a business and even in last two years I was through a lot and have hard time to keep it, But all I was thinking keeping that business and keep going so I can hand it to my son some day.

BTW my father still alive and I never touch anything from what he leaving me.

But he was there for me in every step till this moment I am writing this.

I hope everyone have chance and have good parents.

I really need to get my will in order. It would be free through my work insurance and I need to make it happen. At only 41 years old you never think about the end, but tomorrow is never promised. I have already told my wife and my mom that I want to be cremated with no funeral, no celebration of life, nothing. Just spread me in the pasture and at the lake and move on with life.

I've though a lot about where my ashes will be planted.  My wife and I have decided to have our ashes mixed so our bodies are together forever.  This will require some work as people rarely die at the same time. I kid her that if I die first she should put my ashes on a shelf in the house.  If she gets a new boyfriend, I'll be there to supervise....   ?

My wife gets everything except for my crankbaits.  I am not going anywhere without my crankbaits.
