Msl819 Posted October 6, 2021 Posted October 6, 2021 I picked up these three older style GLX rods for what I think was a very reasonable price and wanted to see what the collective experience is here with any or all of these rods. Given time I will be able to put some water time into all three and have my own experience and opinion but until then, I wanted to hear from y’all. I cleaned the cork and they all cleaned very well. I will seal them this weekend when I have time. All seem to be in very good condition given they are used and I would guess roughly 10 years old. They are all full handle with recoil guides. Any info and impression you ha e would be appreciated. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted October 7, 2021 Super User Posted October 7, 2021 I had the same 803C GLX and unfortunately broke it (my fault) years ago. I did the Xpeditor service and Loomis sent me a newer version without the Recoil guides. It's a great rod but the original was like a magic wand. I still miss the original rod today. I also had one of the GLX crankbait rods (can't remember which one ) from the same era and didn't care for it as much as I thought I would. It was actually too sensitive for a crankbait rod and the taper made hook sets feel off. Granted it is a really nice rod, it just wasn't what I wanted in a crankbait rod. I ended up selling it after the first season. Quote

Honestly, I don’t fish a crankbait all that much. Perhaps with a more dedicated rod I might. Also curious to see if it would be good with topwater treble hook baits and/or jerkbaits. I am hoping the 874 is good for jigs and larger t-rigs. I am curious to see how “heavy” it fishes or if it is more “medium-heavy” Quote
