C5Longhorn Posted October 3, 2021 Posted October 3, 2021 I've been eyeing a new spinning reel and ML rod for weightless and light weight plastics. I'm budgeting about $100 -$150 for a reel and looking at the BG and the new for '21 Nasci. Would be interested in opinions on these 2. I currently have a Nasci that I've been happy with, but I also hear a lot of good feedback on the BG. Thanks, Rick Quote
ironbjorn Posted October 3, 2021 Posted October 3, 2021 The BG is heavier and I personally think it's ugly. I tend to stay at or under $100 for a spinning reel. My go-to reels are the Daiwa Legalis, Shimano Sahara, and Shimano NASCI. 1 Quote
Super User bulldog1935 Posted October 3, 2021 Super User Posted October 3, 2021 BG=F150 Nasci = Corolla. @C5Longhorn I have this youtube set to start with a direct comparison of BG and Battle, and gets to Nasci at 45:56 3 1 Quote

GetFishorDieTryin Posted October 3, 2021 Posted October 3, 2021 The 21 Nasci looks like its going to be a banger. IMO the Nasci would be the reel to go with over the BG. Not that the BG isn't a good reel because it is, its heavy. Nasci is smoother, lighter and has an AL main vs BGs zinc. 1 Quote
garroyo130 Posted October 3, 2021 Posted October 3, 2021 BG vs. Shimano Spheros Inshore is a better comparison Quote
Reel Posted October 3, 2021 Posted October 3, 2021 I've got the old generaton of the Nasci and it's been a very very good reel. Quote

Is the Stradic FL a much better reel? 1 Quote
QED Posted October 3, 2021 Posted October 3, 2021 I like the Team Lew's Custom Pro spinning reels in this budget price range. They are currently Lew's best spinning reels but well within the stated price constraint. Quote
C5Longhorn Posted October 3, 2021 Author Posted October 3, 2021 Appreciate all the responses, now I have my eye on a Stradic. Now, what ML or M rod...........? Quote
Super User JustJames Posted October 4, 2021 Super User Posted October 4, 2021 Then there will be Tatula LT with Zaion frame at 6.2oz to compare while Stradic FL 2500 is 7.9oz ??? plus it is cheaper and if you look around still around your budget. if you want aluminum reel and don’t care about weight the FL is pretty solid choice. For ML rod techniques, weightless worm, I like Tatula LT way better. 1 Quote

I would recommend a Fuego 3k, its a good reel and you would be happy with it. The FL is great its 2x the of Fuego. That way you could put another $100 toward the rod. 2 Quote

LCG Posted October 4, 2021 Posted October 4, 2021 The Stradic FL is a fantastic reel.silky smooth drag and power to spare. The reel does weigh more than a ci4+ or zaion material reel, but is aluminum, so that's to be expected. I am on my second season with it and it's still super smooth. It still weighs less than a nasci, I don't find the weight to be an issue. When I was buying the reel I compared it to the Stradic ci4+ as the vanford wasn't out yet, the ci4+ did not balance well on my rod so I chose the FL. No regrets at all. If you want to stick to a budget reel the nasci looks pretty nice though. Quote

At this price point going $100 more on the rod will produce more gains than going up in price on a spinning reel. Quote
DaubsNU1 Posted October 5, 2021 Posted October 5, 2021 Well, I’ve only owned Shimano…and Chevy, with one GMC thrown in for good measure. Work well for me! Quote
thunderblack Posted October 5, 2021 Posted October 5, 2021 Been fishing the blue/gold previous version Nasci a long time in fresh and salt. Zero issues and that's after some large SW fish giving any reel a run for its money. Quote
Hulkster Posted October 5, 2021 Posted October 5, 2021 Doesn't the BG have a screw in handle type like the shimano ultegra and up? to me this would give a big advantage to the BG no? that being said, the new ultegra from shimano looks amazing for the money. 1 Quote
