koko36265 Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 I was fishing a 1/2 ounce Lunker buzz bait yesterday and caught a couple.... A couple of minutes later some darn jet skiers came racing by followed by some other recreation boats... I stayed for about 20 mins after that and never got another bite, before I had to leave because they would go by and about the time that the wake calmed down here they came again..... My question is if the water is rough or if there is a lot of wake from other boats, is it worth throwing a buzz bait if the waves are rough.... Or is buzz baits mainly for calm waters?? Quote
Super User Marty Posted August 7, 2007 Super User Posted August 7, 2007 I don't know about boat wakes, as they may spook the fish, but I have caught numerous fish on topwaters in choppy water and the buzzbait is my first choice on top under those choppy conditions. Quote
Clayton Posted August 7, 2007 Posted August 7, 2007 You need to keep in mind that the fish get used to there surroundings. If an area always has boats running by it is safe to say that the fish have adapted to that situation. All the comotion probably affects the fisherman more than the fish. But, should someone run right on top of (and not just close to) an area you are fishing you might try moving down and coming back later. Also as far as when to throw certain topwaters, you want to match the lure presentation with the water conditions. For example a very calm water condtion would require a lure that is not extremely loud. Then on the other end of the spectrum if it is choppy and windy you should throw something that makes alot more noise. That should get you started. Good luck! Quote
slarose20 Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 Like Clayton said, fish get used to these surroundings. The only thing that may effect your fishing is the wake from these boats and what not may make the water a little murky. I make my own buzzbaits and ive caught numerous fish. Just don't lose your focus and keep your confidence they will continue to bite. On a side note if you can throw the buzz bait up on shore and come into the water that way it makes the fish believe more in the action of the bait. IE its a snake / frog / mouse or what not. Just my 2 cents Quote
Infidel. Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 I think those guys covered it. In fact I was fishing a buzz bait on Saturday and got hit when my bait was right in the middle of a wake set. In fact as long as the other boaters are out of my casting range, I don't mind at all because I feel that in general, the wave action makes the fish more active. Quote
