Im looking at the new MinnKota Edge trolling motor, does anybody have one and what do you think? All online reviews are extreme good and bad. Non of the trolling motors have and consistency to the reviews which scares me when dishing out the cash.

The primary reason for bad reviews is a failure of any type with a trolling motor is a royal pain. Trying to find a good repairman is difficult and the turnaround time is far to long. The two manufacturers will pay for repairs but you must get it to the repairman, wait for repair and then pick it up. This process in my area is at least two weeks no matter which brand you have repaired. The customer wants a new motor and usually the manufacturer will not replace but will repair. Therefore if you have a failure with a fairly new motor that brand sucks from now on.

I purchased a used motor of the same brand to keep as a spare in order to eliminate down time.

My advice is buy what you like and don't make your decision based solely on reviews for trolling motors. It seems to me you get a good one or you don't. That's my take on trolling motors. I currently have three of one brand and two of the other, but none the model you are asking about, so you may want to ignore this entire rant......................Al

I just went through this as well.  I looked at a lot of different motors and did end up getting the edge 70.  BPS has a lot of good reviews on this motor.  I bought mine two weeks ago and it was 499.00 at amazon.com with free shipping.  Couple that with the 70.00 rebate thru Minn Kota and its a tough deal to beat.

I just went through this same dilemma....I decided to go with what was recommended to me here at BR.....The Maxxum 70... It was what I really wanted anyways 8-)

And I got Bass Pro to price match Cabela for $699...IMO it is well worth the $200 more than the edge...
