ITO_ZILLION Posted September 22, 2021 Posted September 22, 2021 Looking for a 200 sized reel for baits in the 1.0 - 3.0 oz range. Kind of confused, a Daiwa Tatula 200 and a Shimano Tranx 200 are both 200 sized reels. And yet when I look them both up on TW, their line capacities are totally different. According to specs and papers, the Daiwa Tatula 200 holds more line while the Shimano Tranx 200 holds less line. Which reel is going to hold more line, a Daiwa Tatula 200 or a Shimano Tranx 200? I should go with the Daiwa Tatula 200 if I need more line capacity right? I like fishing braid to a leader and so I like to use the highest pound braid that I can get away with in order to minimize the braid from digging in and causing a backlash. I need a reel that will have enough line capacity left on the spool during a long cast, in order to maintain a high IPT for covering more water. Quote
garroyo130 Posted September 22, 2021 Posted September 22, 2021 I dont think you will spool either of those reels when fishing for bass. As far as capacities, just go off stated capacity on the website. Quote
Super User jimmyjoe Posted September 22, 2021 Super User Posted September 22, 2021 I e-mailed Daiwa about this. The Daiwa Tatula 150 is advertised as holding 150 yards of 14 lb. test. The Curado 200K is advertised as holding 110 yards of 14 lb. test. In reality, they hold exactly the same amount of line. I asked about this in my e-mail. The answer that I got was that Daiwa USA did not know which line the main office specified for their capacities. They "thought" it was some sort of fluorocarbon, but were not sure. They didn't know capacities by diameter. Really? The Tatula 200 is the same reel as the 150, with two exceptions. The arbor on the 200 is much smaller, so as to hold more line. IPT will be commensurately lower, too. And the 200 uses Magforce, not Magforce-Z. I have 50 lb.test Sufix 832 on my Tatula 150. I have always used 10-20 feet of mono as backing on all my reels that used braid, whether spinning or casting. On one cast with a 1 oz. Dardevle spoon, I got into the backing. That doesn't necessarily mean that you will, though. Maybe @garroyo130 is right. Good luck! jj Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted September 22, 2021 Super User Posted September 22, 2021 If you are going to be throwing 3 oz. baits, I would consider going to a 300 size reel. My Tatula 200 doesn't perform as well as my tatula 300 in the 3 oz range. Quote
Bass Rutten Posted September 23, 2021 Posted September 23, 2021 The 200 tat holds significantly more line, it'll maintain ipt better, I use it for stuff up to about 2oz, Like the others I think 3oz is kinda pushing it on a 200 reel. I'd move up to the tranx 300 myself. The tranx 200 holds 80yds of 65lb braid vs the 300 at 125 yds of 65lb, a whopping 50% more line. The Zillion tw hd is another monster of a reel you might consider with close to the same line capacity as the tranx 300. Quote
