Take a look at Dobyns Kaden series KD713C or KD714C.

Tom

PS, spinnerbaits w/blades weigh at least 2X the package weight.

You and Columbia craw hit on the same rod. Would go with the KD714C to help get them out of the reeds. Always liked listening to Gary on the ultimate bass podcast and this would be my 4th Dobyns so I am learning their ratings, slower along with St Croix’s a bit faster than other brands. Not that other brands don’t have great rods, knowing what I want out of the rod and knowing what I will get with those two brands increases the chance I get the right rod. It is amazing to think though I have progressed enough to know exactly what I want in a rod, no more random buys which is nice and save money.

Call Gary and talk to him.

So I posted the below in another thread and probably should have added this explenation up front as to why I prefer a moderate tip vs a faster tip. I really appreciate all of the suggestions as my list to choose from is pretty long. I may even throw in an Aird X if the budget supports it.

So I just took out my Avid X 6' 6" MH fast and my prodigy 7" MH Moderate and sensitivity the Avid won the day, but by a small margin. As far as casting I was more comfortable with the Prodigy. I could do everything with both just easier with the moderate Prodigy.

I think this comes down to personal casting styles. I grew up casting fiberglass and moderate action rods and I also fly fish. My casting motion likely gets the same velocity as many, but my acceleration is slow and gradual which I think suits a more moderate rod. Someone that casts with a quicker accelaration will do better with a faster rod. I don't feel that I load the Avid as efficiently as I do the prodigy. For me I need a medium heavy rod with a medium tip. I think this is why I like Dobyns rods for the 3 I have and the 6 St Croixs, still on the fence about the Avid X, is that I bought actions that suit my casting style. I may pick up a Dobyns 1/4 to 1 Kaden and a victory medium heavy moderate over the holidays for next year. One of the two will become my spinnerbait rod or who knows maybe the MH prodigy will win the day.

That one will be in the boat next year. I actually tried to get my wife to buy it for me when it first came out. In the store it was lighter and doing the store shake test appears to have a softer tip than my premier MHM. What I use it for is up in the air, but spinnerbaits might be good with it and lately that stick sees the most use.

I dont think that model is out yet.  Are you sure you're thinking of the same one?

I believe it is this one. TW doesn't have the others in stock yet. On Black Friday not sure if I will get the rod from TW or Thorne brothers. I got my Premier musky rod from Thorne brothers last year. Thorne also lets you add it to the cart. The instore shake test really impressed me. On the water I hope that impression gets even better.

I looked at a MHM victory and in the store it felt softer than my MHM premier that I love but is way to stiff for smaller spinnerbaits. I am concerned the MH victories would be to stiff as well once I got it on the water.

I'm pretty sure the 7'1" MH/F "The Grunt" would be pretty good for spinnerbaits. I just saw @A-Jay has this rod, so maybe he can chime in. The 7'3" MH/F "The Marshall" will definitely work, but it is on the stiffer side for sure (it's not quite as stiff as the typical MH/F St Croix rods). I've been really impressed with the sensitivity of the Victory rods, and a solid price point.

The 7' MH/MF Mojo Bass spinnerbait rod is pretty good for 3/8 and 1/2oz spinnerbaits as well as chatterbaits and swim jigs. Personally, I throw my spinnerbaits on my 6'10" Daiwa Tatula MH/F which is pretty good. Occasionally I will use my Daiwa Tatula 7'2" MH/R glass rod as well if I'm just carrying one moving bait stick. Finally the Dobyns 704C or 734C in whichever line you can afford is also a very solid choice as well. They have a little softer tip than most fast rods, very appropriate for a spinnerbait or chatterbait.

EDIT: I went out fishing today. The Marshall definitely has a much softer tip than your typical St Croix rod (it's only the second time we got it out). It might not be as ideal as the Mojo Bass spinnerbait rod for spinnerbaits, but it's better than I was thinking for sure.

I have used all three of these recently and this is the best advice by far. The spinnerbait rod is ideal if you like soft tips, but "the grunt" is also great for spinnerbaits. Im using "the marshall" for jigs as its much more stiff than "the grunt"

The Mashall seems to be a great jigs and plastics rod. I got it for my son as an upgrade to his Mojo Bass Jig & Bait rod, paired with a Tatula SV it's super light and sensitive. It has all the power of the Mojo Bass with a softer tip, so I think it's better for jigs and T-Rigs but it's a huge upgrade for spinnerbaits and chatterbaits. I would be more inclined to use it for 1/2oz spinnerbaits, and the grunt for 3/8oz spinnerbaits (the spinnerbait rod works for both), but a 3/8oz spinnerbait should be okay too.

Also on a side note, the Full Contact Finesse rod is a killer jig rod.

Hands down my go to is a 7’2 Shimano Zodias. USD it’s 199.99 - 214.99 but it’s well worth it! Sensitivity it’s amazing plus the backbone.

I haven't gotten to try the full contact finesse out, but maybe that will be next on the wish list. Thats super interesting that your Mojo had a stiffer tip though. I have the newer generation Mojo Jig & Bait and its tip is wayyy softer than the tip on my Marshal.

The 7'1" MH/F just to be sure we have the same rod? I also have the newer generation and it's quite a bit stiffer.

Yep! Thats the one. The backbone is really stout on that rod, but the tip section is super soft. I love using it for weightless plastics like super flukes or topwater toads because of this. The Marshall might load a little deeper down the rod...maybe...but the tip section on the mojo is way softer and more whippy. I just remembered that my mojo is the 2 piece model because I bough it to take on vacation with me, so maybe there is a difference between 1 and 2 piece models.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I am set on my purchase and everyone’s input was helpful. I’ll be logged out for awhile so I likely won’t see anymore replies.
