shimano Posted September 21, 2021 Posted September 21, 2021 I've got a small dent on my reel rim, does it affect casting? Quote
Super User WRB Posted September 21, 2021 Super User Posted September 21, 2021 Depends if the line contacts during the retrieve when the line is under tension. Spool replacements are available from the reel mfr. Tom Quote
shimano Posted September 21, 2021 Author Posted September 21, 2021 It was a spinning reel and I don’t think it does. Quote

Super User MN Fisher Posted September 21, 2021 Super User Posted September 21, 2021 I'd check it for roughness first - run a Q-Tip over the area of the dent, if any fibers get snagged, then you need to replace the spool. It'll abrade the line and cause failure, lost lures, lost fish, etc. Contact the manufacturer or one of the reel-parts shops on-line. No snags? If it's fairly shallow, it shouldn't affect the casting distance at all. Deeper dents might cause a little 'flapping', but won't affect the distance too much. It's more unsightly than anything else for most people...me, if it still works fine, it's fine. Quote

Super User FishTank Posted September 22, 2021 Super User Posted September 22, 2021 I have an older Shimano Stradic that has a ding on the spool and does snag braid but it comes with a spare spool. I have the good one set up with braid and the dinged one set up with FC. Quote

Depending on the reel, you can order them from the manufacture to match the reel you have. What reel do you have? You might post a picture to give us a better idea of what it is exactly you have going on. Quote
