What to do with a V-Hull

hello everyone,

i have a 12' lund v-hull that my dad an i use for trolling for trout and it works very well. this boat is as watertight as it is tough and i mean it. it is defineately not a flimsy jon boat. it is a little on the un-stable side though. just wondering if you guys have any ideas on how to make this boat a better set up for bass fishing. i tried having my minn kota on the front but it was more of a pain in the rear than anything. any advice or pictures of your v-hull setups will help.

Probably not possible and well I honestly know nothing about your boat but... Is there anyway to add pontoon type outriggers like seen on some canoe's. Like I said I really know nothing but I just had that mental image come in my head. Any way sorry for wasting your time.

I have had a number of Lunds, great boats. If it is the WC-12 with the split rear bench then I'd say it's a fine fishing platform. Put the battery up front to help spread the weight, use a transom mounted electric and you are good to go. The beam should be sufficient to stand up comfortably. If you are talking about the car-topper 12, well, then it is what it is and it's just not as stable. Solid though.

ok thanks for your sharing your knowledge. my father bought this boat about 20 years for 300 bucks and it came with a grand new evinrude 6hp with no paint even chipped off the flywheel teeth! wroks as a great trolling boat. im gonna try and find a wider-style semi-v jon boat. thanks everyone!

My only beef with V hulls on the comfort side is that they are V hulls, that V narrowing towards the front of the boat makes them pretty uncomfortable to stand up >, but the problem can be solved easily by building a floor ( wood or aluminum ) to level inside the bottom. You can make it removable if you plan to cartop it. But V hulls do have a huge advantages over jon boats, they slice through the water ( instead of gliding over it ) so when the wind blows and the waves start to grow on height that 's a huge advantage, also, you can put a bigger outboard, as for when you ride, you can make sharp turns at speed ( something you can 't do with a jon boat or you end up on the bank or worse, the boat can tip over ), you can ride big waters on them too.
