I got a promotion recently and so my fiance surprised me with the Champion XP I've been wanting to beat the banks with on shore (684c). Now it needs a reel. The SLX matches up nice. Anyone that has a 150 XT, how is it and does it handle as little as 3/16-1/4oz well (needs to be versatile as a bank rod)?

That's a tiny spool. The 4 power (H/F) Dobyns will usually be throwing 3/8-3/4 but I'd like a reel that could successfully throw smaller too. Still MGL in your opinion?

I have the MGL and it throws everything very well. I think it will come down to the size line you will be using and how much line you need. I currently have the MGL spooled with 10lb big game, about 80-90 yds give or take, more than enough.

I am going to respool with 15 big game as an expierement as I don't need a ton of line capacity, more concerned about control.

I ordered an XT but I want to try this MGL out too so I'm going to order a Champ XP in the 3 power and slap an MGL on that.

I have the 151, the left hand version, and I love it. I use it for spinners/chatterbaits/some swimbaits.  It’s a great reel.

Plus one here for the Chronarch MGL one of my favorite reel, But I would strongly consider trying out the new Curado 150 MGL since it's a bit cheaper and should have a newer MGL spool, it would definitely be my next reel for sure. I've been wanting to try out the SLX series but I don't want to own another reel without the X-Ship. I use to own the old Casitas in the past and can definitely feel the difference.

I also have the 151 XT. Nice reel. Very smooth. The lightest I've used it with is a 1/4oz T rigged 3.5 YoMama. It fished just fine with it. I currently have it paired up with a Kaden 744c. Nice versatile combo.

I second this. The SLX 70 MGL is probably the top of the SLX line and is fantastic for casting lighter lures. As long as you aren't using above 16# fluorocarbon.

+1 on the SLX MGL. I use it for down to 1/16 oz in line spinners on a L rod. It won’t bomb it big-Swimbait style, but it can definitely do it.

I typically throw smaller finesse jigs, or flip with mine. With 16lb sniper I can *almost* spool the reel, but not quite. Also throwing on a longer rod than you, so YMMV.

If you're worried about line capacity, the Curado MGL is a 150.
