I’m looking for a higher gear ratio baitcaster and a local fella has an Abu Garcia Revo Ike 8:1 for sale at a decent price.  Is this a good reel?  The fancy purple makes me worry it’s just a premium price for flashy looks.

I haven't used one, but the reviews are good, and TW is sold out of that 8:1.  If its a good price, why not?

I have one and I really like mine. The paint is beautiful, too. I opted for the lower gear ratio as a dedicated frogging combo. I'm not a huge fan of the centrifugal braking setup, but it's likely because it's too much adjustment for me. I'm a simpleton and I prefer the magnetic brakes on a lot of the other AGs.

Oh, and I love my 8:1 ratio REVO (EXD). I have a tough time going back to slower ratios.

I believe that the Ike Abu's are the Premier's with some fancy paint to them. They're a good reel if you're looking to step up into a more premium baitcaster.

I am an Abu guy and I have (7) MGX's, (6) MGXtremes, (3) Premiers Gen 1 and (4) Revo Ikes. I personally like the centrifugal brakes over magnetic and I like all the Revo reels that I have. However you do have to dial it in but once you do you will enjoy the Revo Ike. It's definitely not worth the $250 dollar price point but if you get it for half of that or a little more it is worth it. The color is pretty cool too. JMO

I’m fishing two Revo Winches and love them. I’d love to do an Ike setup, at regular price it’s turning me off but would not have any hesitation to buy one. Hard to find an Ike reel local. Maybe at TW sale if it is honored. If the price is good take the chance and buy it.

It's more like a Revo STX with custom paint job and handle. STX is a good reel, but the brake is a bit finicky. A price lower than $120 will be a good deal for that reel IMO.

I used one my buddy has.  Its a wider reel then most of my Shimanos and while its not particularly heavy it feels solid.  It didnt do so well with lighter baits, but I think alot of that that was due to the rod he had it on which was a stiff 6'7 MH.  I did catch quite a few fish on it, and I remember really digging the handle.
