Used a lot of Nichols.  Also have a lot of Yamamoto buzzbaits and spinnerbaits but I am going to try some of the Bassman Baits from Australia.  Got some directly from him before they were available here in the states.  He sponsors Carl Jocuman.

Question for those of you that use the ones with the long tails like the war eagles...

Do you trim the skirt, or leave the longer tails? Do you use a trailer?

I use War Eagle spinnerbaits most of the time. Love the Screaming Eagles in either Spot Remover or Mouse colors. I don't trim the skirts and very rarely ever put a trailer on one.

Think I saw Seth Feider throwing  the bassmans this year.

Are these still sold? I could not find it.

Sporadically at best.

I have a small but well guarded collection that I only break out when things get serious.

(Like this morning)

Always use wire as the big pike like them quite a bit as well.

I might be the only one here who likes a Strike King Banshee...something about the way they flow through the water on a fast retrieve is nice. Caught more bass and pike on them year round than anything else quite honestly, but spring and fall are always the hot times.

Lately I've been buying the z man ones here and there but I don't think they are any better than strike king, plus they are more expensive. I've had a few break rather quick too.

I'll try just about any brand if they look nice and aren't over $10 each.

You're not the only one.  The head on those is perfect for banging off the zebe encrusted rocks around here without getting stuck, like a edge shape does.  You used to be able to get them at Dick's as SK Premier baits for like $5.  I like the skirts on them with built in trailer too.  For just about all other spinnerbaiting I do, Stanley Weedless Wedge and Siebert's Cosmic spinnerbaits are perfect.  For the latter, pay the few pennies for wire tied.  They hold well, even against northerns.

Yup. I used to always buy them at Field and Stream but ever since it's changed to Sportsman's Warehouse plus whatever stuff with covid I haven't seen them there. In fact their spinnerbait section is pretty bad now, which is why I was resorting to z man.

I never buy tackle online but I feel like maybe I should at this point. At least Walmart still has some decent SK spinnerbaits for cheap. Those Siebert's baits look pretty nice too, never even heard of them.

Mike kicks them out as is, without tuning.  They work fine, but I like to put a tiny bend at the head.  I feel like they burn better that way.

I think double willow leaf is the deal whenever the water is warm. And by warm, I mean 60 degrees or more. I like them both in gold shiner because that's what we have for forage. But they work well in shad waters as well. My current PB came on the War Eagle. But lately, I'm using the Big Bass spinnerbait. It has a swinging head that's supposed to help keep fish hooked up. I've had a couple of WE baits break and the heads get loose on the wire when you catch a big one. Jimmy Houston throws a SB away after catching a big bass on it because it's likely to fail later. The Big Bass spinnerbait is beefy and durable.

Double willow?

Yes, that very same 3/8 oz. spinnerbait in the link. 8.02 lbs. in July of 2020.

Oh yeah my bad you said "that war eagle".

Hmmmm.

Thanks man ?

Edit: I love this topic. I just love spinnerbaits. They make me feel all warm and fuzzy

Stanley has always been my go to SB but I’ve been impressed with Nichols as well. The new BooYah Covert series are also great. Only thing I change in the fall is double willow blades and compact frame. A lot of time I’ll drop down to a 1/4 oz

I throw a modified SB from Labor Day until the lakes here close for waterfowl season. It's a short-arm, single willow blade. It's easy to burn over the tops of weeds and when paused, will helicopter down weed edges, drops, steep banks, etc.  I remove the front blade from an out of the package bait, cut the arm and reattach the rear blade after adding a loop in the end of the arm.  I have even stroked them like a jig with success. As a drop bait, it's something bass rarely see.

I've done pretty good with Powder in clean water and around wood, but I normally do reserve the River2Seas's for at least stained water.

My usual clean water choice is a Nichols dual willow in white and sometimes something like a Bombshell Bass or Bombshell Shad

holy moly thank you for the overwhelming amount of responses. 99% of the time i will reach for a chatterbait over a spinnerbait and very RARELY throw a spinnerbait if at all. i elected to go with the nichols pulsator and will dedicate this late summer early fall to gaining confidence with a spinnerbait.

Glad to hear you went with the Nichols even though others had wonderful recommendations. About gaining confidence in a spinnerbait, IMO @Captain Phil offered the best advice on spinnerbaits I’ve seen on here. Phil step in if I misquote you but I believe you said to fish it slow and fish it around cover. That is how I almost always fish them. Lately instead of paralleling lily pad edges I’ve tried to throw into them where possible through small gaps and what not. Cover helps conceal the spinnerbait in addition to throwing it around what the bass are actually relating to. A spinnerbait is much more snagproof than many think and IMO the nastier you get with it, the better. Please try a single bladed spinnerbait too.

smallmouth spinnerbladin is a whole different deal I think and @A-Jay  could certainly offer great advice on that

Some places always hold bass.  Pads are one of them.  I'm not talking about little dollar pads.  I want dark green pads, the kind you can find somewhere in most every lake.   You can fish pads a number of different ways.  You can worm them and spend all day with your worm hung in the "V" slot.  You can frog them and lose more fish than you land. Or, you can use a spinnerbait.  If all you do is fish the edge, you are missing most of the fish.  What you want is to throw back in the pads and work the spinnerbait slowly through the gaps and around the inner edges.  If you stay with this tactic, your fish will be heavier than your fellow anglers.  To be successful, you must learn to be an accurate caster. This is no place for finesse tackle.  It's hand to hand combat.  To win tournaments in Florida you need at least one kicker bass. I know of no better way to get one.  Don't be afraid to do this in the middle of the day.  Overhead sun makes pad fishing better.
