oldgolf4 Posted September 6, 2021 Posted September 6, 2021 I'm planning on going to Pickwick this week and would like to know the water conditions. I know the TVA is projecting the outflow at the d**n will drop to 47,500 by tomorrow, but does anyone know if there is any significant debris in the water from the flooding upstream? And by the way, are the bass biting? Thanks Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted September 6, 2021 Global Moderator Posted September 6, 2021 I live about 400 miles upstream so it probably doesn’t help much but the debris wasn’t too terrible from a couple weeks ago and it should have all settled out by now looks like they were running more water to knock the top off of it and she’s back down to normal levels . It’s always a little tougher fishing when they slow the water down (blue line is this year’s level, green last year ) Quote
C4Dave Posted September 7, 2021 Posted September 7, 2021 I was below the Pickwick Dam last Thursday with all the generators on but not spilling, about 85,000 cfs. Didn't see any debris there. Fishing was OK for this time of year. 1 Quote
oldgolf4 Posted September 8, 2021 Author Posted September 8, 2021 Thanks tnriver. You were absolutely right. There were a few stray "chunks" in the water but nothing bad and the bite was rather slow, but sometimes you just have to go! There was no current. The water temp ran in the low 80's. 1 Quote
oldgolf4 Posted September 22, 2021 Author Posted September 22, 2021 The Pickwick data shows the lake will be spilling around 108,000 tomorrow and predicted to be 3 to 4 above pool. Would you consider this to be safe water on the main lake for someone in a Bass Tracker 175 and if so what would you think the fishing conditions might be? Also, off topic, tnriver or one of the moderators if you are on here, "How do you PM someone?" I have searched and simply cannot figure it out! Quote

Just click on their profile and there’s some kind of emblem with an envelope that you click to send a personal message. as far as the flow on pickwick, you will be fine unless you arent right next to a dam. The wind is much more important for waves on the main channel in a bass tracker Quote

Thanks tnriver for both the lake info and the PM message info. I don't know why I had not seen the message envelope! Don't get old, everything goes to heck and back!!!!!! 1 Quote
Fishlegs Posted September 22, 2021 Posted September 22, 2021 You going to the Tennessee or Alabama end of Pickwick? The Alabama end is above flood stage right now, but it's supposed to crest today, and start going down tomorrow. Like @TnRiver46 said, you'll probably be OK as long as you don't get too close to the dam. If you're going to the Alabama end of Pickwick you need to be aware of the rocks that are mainly on the south side of the river. They are normally visible, but when the water level is up they might be just under the surface. That could make things messy in a hurry. Be safe, and good luck. 1 Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted September 23, 2021 Super User Posted September 23, 2021 I have a friend who has lived on Yellow Creek for more than 35 years. He has NEVER seen the water this high in the fall. The lake is still rising and flood gates are open. https://www.tva.com/environment/lake-levels/pickwick 2 Quote
