BassmanfromNC Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 Hello Anyone ever put a motor on a kayak? if so, how'd it work out for you? Anyone ever order from these guys:http://www.islandhopperoutboards.com/ I'm considering. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted February 12, 2010 Super User Posted February 12, 2010 Bassyaks probably has the best conversions for the $$$. http://www.bassyaks.com/ There is also Torqeedo, a higher end product: http://www.torqeedo.com/us/hn/products/ultralight/product-description.html Quote
BassmanfromNC Posted February 12, 2010 Author Posted February 12, 2010 Thanks The bassyaks seem nice but I don't want motor attached to kayak. The other one looks pricey. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted February 12, 2010 Super User Posted February 12, 2010 Bassyaks are removable - a couple of bolts and two carbiners. Foot controlled steering far outweighs the minor inconvenience. Quote
bass or bass ? Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 Bass Master magazine had an article in the last issue about how to add a trolling motor to the kayak. If your kayak has rod holders molded in, use 1 1/4" pvc pipe cut to @ 12" length. Insert these into rod holders. Cut a piece of pressure treated 2X4 to span the PVC and overhang either side enough to mount trolling motor. Then mark on 2X4 and PVC where to drill through and use stainless steel bolts, washers and nuts to assemble the rig .After painting the 2X4 the color of your choice. Bolt it up, add your motor and battery, and go fishing. Quote

Super User J Francho Posted February 16, 2010 Super User Posted February 16, 2010 The side mounted rigs look a bit unbalanced. It probably wouldn't matter on some boats, but could problematic on others. Keep in mind too, that you are limited in space to land a fish. Its not the same as a bow mounted TM on a bass boat, where there's more room to move around. Also, if you go this route, do a dry test to ensure you aren't inhibiting your paddling. Quote
BassNut Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 Yep bassyaks make great kits. I have one on my wavewalk W300. Quote
BassmanfromNC Posted February 17, 2010 Author Posted February 17, 2010 I decided to go with the side mounted setup. Hope to get this friday by UPS. After I try it I'll post my experience. Quote
