The flatworm has clearly earned its reputation as the king of the maxscent baits for dropshot, especially for smallies.

Anyone have any comparable success with the hit worm or the flatnose minnow?

I just bought some of these to try them out.  The hit worm looks like it could be good on a shakey head too.

Yes.  The MaxScent Flat Nose minnow has met or exceeded our flat worm results on Lake Ontario and consistently out fishes similar non MaxScent stuff.   I’ve not tried the hit worm.

The Flatnose minnows are good too. I have consistently caught bigger fish on the minnow than the worm, but that could just be the fact that I have fished the minnow more.

@Junk Fisherman to clarify, which of these do you mean works better?  I assume you mean the hit worm or flatnose.

Interested in your feedback!

I have had good success with SK Dream Shots. You can always soak some in some magic potion for a while.

I know it is not the ones you mentioned. but I have had good rates with them on smallies here!

The Flatworm works better than the variety of other dropshot baits that I use.  The X-Zone Slammers are the 2nd most productive bait I use.  Zoom Dropshot Worms, Erie Darter Jrs, Baby Z Toos, Yammy Cut Tail worms, Z Man Trick Shots and 3" Senkos are the other baits I dropshot.  I have not tried the other Max Scent baits other than the Flatworm.

I bought a bag of Hit Worms for this very reason and have only used them once. It was an off night all around and I skunked. They seem more versatile than the Flat worm and look like two Flat worms put together so I don't doubt they work. Plus the Plum Apple color looks great I think.

Well, report back after you have actually tried the alternative. Lots of stuff looks good,

but that is not necessarily the case. There are a number of "special" baits and right now

the Flat Worm is one of them.

I can’t get bit with the flatworm.  I’ve tried and tried.

I always give up and thread on my old fav and get some bass love.  ( glad I didn’t misspell bass!)

The bass don't know what's special, rare, hard to find, or amazing. They just eat what they think they should eat. Ive heard it here so many times but it's true, it all depends where you put the bait and present the lure than itself matters alot of the time. Put the flat worm in a body of water with no bass in the area and see how special it is.

Well, that's a whole different issue. I don't catch many fish in my swimming pool either, but

I do get a few bites late at night after a couple of beers!

How are you fishing?  I am still new to this bait.  But when I have used it, it has been killer.  I have fished it on a small shaky head and on drop shot.  Both have been productive.   All I do is cast it where I know there are fish and let it set or just bounce it slowly.

The one downside, for me, with this bait, is Bluegill love the tails of these things.  They bite them clean off.  I tried fishing them in one of my favorite lakes for the first time and before I knew it, I had gone through eight of them with only one bass to show for it.  All of them had missing tails.

I know you use scent once in a while, wouldn't another bait with a baitfish scent do the trick as well or better? I am guessing the scent has more to do with it than the plastic, and/or just the confidence/expectations that people have in the bait.

That is my thoughts, that's why I say the hit worm is more versatile because it can be rigged more ways but still has the same scent.

If you really are just dead set on the flat worm, cut a hit worm in half through the length of the bait and it will have a VERY similar shape and profile to the flat worm.

I really like the Zman trick Shotz because they have ribs and hold scent really well.
