DDog1 Posted September 5, 2021 Posted September 5, 2021 Of all the top end FC lines out there, which develop coils/twists on a spinning rod more slowly? I've spooled up spinning rods with FC and it's hard coils in a week or so, while other FCs were better, thing is I never was good at keeping track of which was which! So basically looking for a FC I can leave on my spinning rod and will get less memory coils. Tatsu? Invizx? Sniper? Something else? 1 Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted September 5, 2021 Super User Posted September 5, 2021 When using FC on spinning reels Rule 1 - Get some KVD Line&Lure and use it Rule 2 - As light a line as possible - I'd go to 12# on a 3000 reel, but that's about it. Rule 3 - Use a high-quality line that's fairly limp - I have InvizX 6# on my 1000 size and InvizX 8# on my 2000/2500 reels with little problems...Tatsu is probably your best option, InvizX second (I'm on a budget, so it's InvizX for me) Rule 4 - Spinning reels WILL twist line - every so often trail it out behind you without weight and reel it back in between your fingers to give it tension...it'll untwist. 3 Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted September 5, 2021 Super User Posted September 5, 2021 I have it on several spinning reels. It does ok as long as I use 10# and less. KVD conditioner helps. 1 Quote
Tatsu Dave Posted September 5, 2021 Posted September 5, 2021 Well Ken in first post cover's it pretty fully, I do only use tatsu because I can't afford not to, Its the best FC I've yet found and I tried a lot. I don't exceed .010 diameter in 3000 size reels and that's about 10# w/tatsu. I was taught a trick called pushing the line where every so often I will cast a long one and holding the rod tip under water pinch the line with right hand and reel back in. Let the lure spin till it stops once in the boat, your good to go. To keep costs down as much as possible buy your line conditioner in bulk size and shop around and catch the large spools of tatsu on sale. I been getting mine in Oregon of late, probably shouldn't say outfits name but they are much cheaper. Good Fishing! 1 Quote

So there's no lure or weight or anything on the end of line right? Just the line, let out a bunch, trail behind boat for 5 min at 5mph? That's a total guess what would you change in that? Thank you Quote

Thank you I don't think you have to let out that much...that's 2200' of distance (5280*5/12)...don't know a freshwater spinner that holds that much line. Just let out enough that you're deeper into the spool than your longest cast...then reel it in...no need to wait. Quote

Nothing but line, just confirming thats what you meant. Quote

FrankN209 Posted September 5, 2021 Posted September 5, 2021 Or use braid with a flouro leader with a fg knot? 1 Quote
huZZah Posted September 5, 2021 Posted September 5, 2021 I do braid to FC leader (like 7’+) on both my spinning rigs to save money on FC, no line conditioner necessary, and no problems with memory. Just a suggestion. Redo leader when it gets to about 3’ or so. I use an Alberto knot. Love it. I tried straight floro on spinning one time and have never forgiven myself. 1 Quote
Junk Fisherman Posted September 6, 2021 Posted September 6, 2021 Gamma Touch in 7 lb is much more manageable than Tatsu in 8 lb. I haven’t been too impressed with Tastu. It is strong and abrasion -resistant but too kinky. Quote
CrankFate Posted September 6, 2021 Posted September 6, 2021 The least memory fluoro is braid. Then add fluoro leader. 2 Quote
Scott804 Posted September 6, 2021 Posted September 6, 2021 If you are going to run fluoro on spinning, I recommend backing the majority of the reel with braid and then just thinking of it as a really really long fluoro leader that goes down to the reel. It is way more managable when you only have 2/3/4 layers of fluoro instead of an entire reel fighting to get out and explode everywhere. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted September 7, 2021 Global Moderator Posted September 7, 2021 I use 8lb Tatsu on my shakyhead rod, it's very manageable, no need for any sprays or anything. I fish in extremely cold conditions too which would make it a real issue if there was any memory. 1 Quote
Super User bulldog1935 Posted September 7, 2021 Super User Posted September 7, 2021 on-topic answer I fish 10- and 12-lb Tatsu on a couple of reels/spools. What you find with all low-memory mono lines is they're stiff and springy - they like to fly off the spool. This is true of Tatsu, and also Maxima Ultragreen. In lighter lines, the best fluoro I've found is JDM Toray Exthread. 1 Quote
Super User FishTank Posted September 7, 2021 Super User Posted September 7, 2021 I have had good luck with 6lb Trilene XL 100% FC since it came out but it does have more stretch than other FC. Its super soft compared to most FC, casts well and tends to hold up depending on how you fish. Only downside is the abrasion resistance is not thet great. Quote
