Super User Catt Posted September 5, 2021 Super User Posted September 5, 2021 It's a Shimano rod, can't make out the serial number. 5'5" Heavy lure weight: 1/2-11/4 oz, line rating: 10-20 lb Reel is a Bantams 300 All in excellent shape Any history y'all can think of? What's it worth? And should I buy it? Quote
TNBankFishing Posted September 5, 2021 Posted September 5, 2021 Reels up on an auction site for 75, that lure rating is before my time. I don’t understand why it doesn’t say 2 and 3/4 oz but 11/4 it is. Has the reel been serviced this year? Any way to get a look at the inners just to make sure it’s not completely bust? if you need a 5’5” extra heavy frog/punch rod it seems neat. Beyond the novelty I’d avoid it. 1 Quote

Delaware Valley Tackle Posted September 5, 2021 Posted September 5, 2021 That rod might be fun as a “shooter” for short accurate casts at targets with spinner bait or big square bill. The value really depends what it’s worth to you. 2 Quote

My butt hurts just thinking about getting whipped with that thing... The rod looks cool. I'd get it if it isn't too expensive. Looks like some that would be fun to catch a biggun on. 1 Quote
QED Posted September 5, 2021 Posted September 5, 2021 Rod is probably a Shimano GR-01553. I really like those cold forged ("colfor") aluminum reel seats. Buy it. BTW, I like the reference to the Wake Up Everybody lyrics, whether or not intentional. 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted September 7, 2021 Global Moderator Posted September 7, 2021 Sounds like one I use have have by Shimano called a "Bullwhip". It didn't have a metal reel seat that I can remember though. That's the rod I learned to jig fish with, pistol grip and everything. 2 Quote

I thought that was odd too but perhaps it could be, looking at the numbers differently, intended to have been 1 1/4oz. My eyes tend to look at numbers and figures always differently and my brain tends to operate on occasion differently too. If you saw how I write the integral symbol from calculus, you might be shocked, lol. Don’t get me wrong. My eyes upon seeing 11/4 transmitted that data to my brain and immediately deduced both 2 3/4 (simply converting an improper fraction to a mixed one) and 1 1/4 as two possible outcomes factoring in the possibility of missing spacing. The latter is somewhat akin to being able to read the next sentence although it is totally messed up. Myfa vor iteho bbyi sdef ini telyf ishi gfors ure. Sorry I am unable to contribute to the topic as I don’t have that knowledge, but Catt, if you like it for a price you’re willing to pay, then go for it. If I fished with it, I just might imagine it’s a light saber. Being that short, I have a feeling it’s going to have excellent wielding traits. If I happen to fish for salmon and bass in the same day, switching from my 8’6” salmon rod to a 6’6” bass rod, it makes the latter feel like a light saber, lol. 1 Quote
