Am I correct that those were largemouth I caught? still learning to identify them, and the park i fished at has them listed as the only bass type that they have in their lake.

Wal-Mart's fine. More technique specific stuff will come later. Enjoy the journey.

Oh i had an absolute blast. that first little guy i caught was within five minutes of being on the water. the second caught about an hour or so in. did a little spinner bait fishing near the end just for kicks but nothing seemed interested, but i also probably only cast that spinner out 10-maybe 15 times, just kinda goofing around before the storm rolled in. but i caught my bass, which is what i went there for, and it made my day.

If you hold them closer to your phone they'll weigh more.

I went and put all the Senkos and Roboworms that I got at Walmart in with the other Senkos and Roboworms that I got from the tackle store where I paid a buck or two more a bag. I hope I can find a way to separate them.

Congrats, on your catches!
I’ve done pretty good fishing before the rain, even fishing in the rain, I just don’t like it when it is lightning.
The  change in the barometric pressure seems to make them feed more.

Zoom makes some of the best soft plastics, easily found in most fishing stores, and can catch bass of all sizes.

The products on the shelves at Walmart are fine (Zoom, Berkely and Strike King make good stuff), and Bass Pro Shops literally has every major brand on the shelves, so I donno what that guy is talking about, unless he thinks everything should be custom or hand-made.

Again, don't overcomplicate this.

You're off to a great start. Keep grinding!

Agree. I’m becoming more and more aware that blaming brand is nothing more than gaslighting. Spoiler alert: sometimes it’s hard and you catch little to nothing.  If it was easy, you’d never get a spot on the water.

But what’s wrong with buying it at Walmart? Saving $1-$2 per bag makes the fish not want them?  What if it’s a half off sale at a store of choice?  Is that ok?  It’s even cheaper…should I…I don’t know…ok I will…cause at least it’s not Walmart ?

I'm new to fishing, like only got a rod and gear about a month ago. I have a local lake I go to in west GA that has large mouth bass, catfish, and some pan fish. Unfortunately, the two trips I've taken over there I've caught nothing. Don't really know what I'm doing and just tried a bunch of different things each time I went. Any advice for catching bass or even pan fish would be most welcome. I will say, even though I didn't catch anything, it was nice to get out and be by the water.

your best bet isnt a special lure, or a technique but theory. Theory will help you catch all species of fish from panfish to catfish to bass. When I first started fishing I thought it was my equiptment that didnt let me catch fish, or my lack of casting ability, but what it really was, is lack of theory. In fishing theory is generalized ideas and notions you can use out on the water. What fish do certain times of year, what fish do it certain water claritys, what fish do in certain water temperatures, where do those fish live, how do those fish hunt, when do they hunt, what are they hunting? If you know all of this, you can throw the wrong lure, in the wrong place, at a wrong time, and still catch fish IF there are fish there. Your goal is to find fish, and theory will help you. just look up "bass fishing theory" and use that information when you are out on the water, It took me two years (starting from being a new angler) to catch my first bass. and I went fishing every week, and learned something new.

Congrats on catching some fish, your off to a good start.  There is nothing wrong with buying tackle from Wal-Mart, especially soft plastics like worms, grubs, flukes.

Well heres my point there is a time and place where almost anything will work that time is spring and initial post spawn. Can you get some fish sure but brands do matter let me tell you that tacklewarehouse is your best place to start 20% off everything black friday. Full price for anything should be avoided at all cost so brands do not matter so if i have a lv500 and you throw a bill lewis rat l trap whos gonna do better in the long run.
