New from PDX, OR

Hey all,

 

New bass fisherman from Portland, OR here.  Been using this amazing forum as a resource while teaching myself to fish for bass over the last month or so.  Have had some limited success, but it's certainly been challenging.  I am primarily limited to river bank fishing at the moment, and pretty much will be for the near future. Been primarily throwing finesse type rigs on a ml/f rod.  Mostly ned rigs, weightless senkos, wacky rig and weighted jig grubs.  Looking forward to learning a lot more and landing some more bass!

 Thanks man.  I live near the falls on the Willamette so basically just around there.  Cedar Oak boat ramp, Mary S. Young, Clackamette park, and Willamette park have been where I've gone without much lucky thus far.  One day I did go on a crazy hike over the train tracks and out to the small fingers off Rock Island.  Even though it's where I caught my only good size bass so far, I won't make that hike again haha.  At least not the route I went.

 

Will hit up the Columbia and some point, but just been sticking to the areas near me so far.

The Columbia and the Willamette both offer some fine bass fishing opportunities, with fall coming up, I'd recommend focusing heavily on baitfish imitators, paddletail swimbaits, flukes, squarebills, lipless, poppers, topwater walking baits and jerkbaits immediately spring to mind, if they aren't interested in those jigs and tubes ought to get it done for you,

Fantastic!  I will definitely go pickup some swimbaits and give those a shot.  I'm pretty overwhelmed with the enormous selection and differences in crankbaits, any suggestion on ones I should definitely be throwing around these parts?  Appreciate all the suggestions,

I have had great success on bill Lewis Rat-L-Trap, Strike King KVD 1.5 squarebills and Red Eye Shad lipless, 6th Sense crush squarebills, just find rocky sections and retrieve over them, good chance you'll get bit eventually.

Welcome!!! Normally I say greetings from the Pac NW but you’re from here too! Just over 2 hours north of you give or take in Seahawk City.
