Just wanted to add a little Football jig history before it gets lost in the mist.

My late friend Larry McChain a JPL machinist made the first football jig molds in 1960. Larry’s football jigs had a wire weed guard with 3/0 Mustad hooks sizes 1/2, 5/8 and 3/4 oz.

The skirts were sold separately, vinyl and flat rubber. Trailers were Pedigo pork rind L3 & L4 or Uncle Josh #11.

As I recall Jim Haddock was 1st to package painted football jigs with vinyl skirts in the early 60’s.

Football jig head helps the hook to stay upright and not roll over sideways snagging rocks etc.

My advice is start with plain painted weedless Yamamoto Football jigs with Owner or Gamakatsu 4/0  hook in 3/8, 1/2 or 3/4 oz using his 4” or 5” twin tail Hula Grub for both a trailer and skirt combo.
