Justbass11 Posted August 27, 2021 Posted August 27, 2021 Going to use Lowrance hook fish finders on the new boat. My question is do I get a split shot for the bow and the triple shot for the consult or the other way around??? Just want to make sure I put the right one in the right place. Thank you for all input. Have a blessed day. Quote
Super User WRB Posted August 27, 2021 Super User Posted August 27, 2021 you need gps maps to navigate while driving, not essential while fishing. Tom 1 1 Quote
gunsinger Posted August 27, 2021 Posted August 27, 2021 I put a tripleshot on my bow. I rarely use the SI because for it to be most effective, as I understand it, your boat has to be moving at a minimum speed that my TM cannot reach. Had I known that, I would have bought something different. My long range plan is to put livescope at the bow and move the tripleshot to the console. 1 Quote

They indicate that the optimum speed for SI is 5 mph. I think you can adjust the refresh settings slightly so you could go a little slower but even at 4 mph that is moving pretty good for a bow mount. SI is a better feature at the console. The ducer on a bow mount is always turning and therefore doesn't give a great reading to the side. 1 Quote
Justbass11 Posted August 27, 2021 Author Posted August 27, 2021 So I’m thinking the double shot would be better at the bow? Or get two triple shots, one for the bow and consult??? Quote
gunsinger Posted August 27, 2021 Posted August 27, 2021 Assuming double shot is sonar and DI, I'd spend more on a bigger screen double shot for the bow and put the triple in the console. I use my DI with the Reveal feature enabled to ID fish. I cannot swear that it's helped me catch more fish but I can see them as well as the bottom structure. Make sure whatever you buy supports mounting the transducer on the trolling motor. The triple shot hook reveal 7 I bought was actually designed for the transducer to be on the transom. But, clearly, I'm no electronics expert. 1 Quote
Super User Bankc Posted August 27, 2021 Super User Posted August 27, 2021 The side imaging on my Lowrance Hook2 5 works just fine in my kayak, and I don't think I could get that thing above 3.5 mph if my life depended on it (well, maybe with a stout wind and heavy current to my back). I can't say exactly where the cutoff point that the side imaging quits working, but I frequently use SI at speeds around 2.7 mph (according to the GPS on my Hook2). Still, I'd keep the triple shot at the console. That's where it'll get used most. Whether you want to put another at the bow is up to you. I don't think you'd use it as much up there, as in my opinion, the speeds where SI works best are kind of fast for casting towards stuff. That, and the triple shot transducer is really large. But it's up to you. 1 Quote
Smalls Posted August 28, 2021 Posted August 28, 2021 I'm using a tripleshot on the kayak, as well. I get readable images all the way down to just under 1 mph. A good tail wind can get me going fast enough. And no, scroll speed is not adjustable for anything but 2D on the hooks. But either way, put SI on the console, and DI on the bow. If you mount SI to your trolling motor, your imaging will get distorted every time you move direction. It's not very useful unless you're going in a straight line. 1 Quote
Crappie160 Posted July 16, 2024 Posted July 16, 2024 I bought a hook reveal 7 just a screen it had a split shot transducer but it got crushed. Can I put a triple shot transducer on it even tho it previously was a split shot? Quote
Danny Sibley Posted December 19, 2024 Posted December 19, 2024 I have a Hook Reveal 9 ts triple shot can I use a split shot transducer on it Quote
