papajoe222 Posted August 25, 2021 Posted August 25, 2021 I have a love/hate relationship with fluoro and I doubt that will change anytime soon. I am curious, however, if you use straight fluoro for your worm fishing and, if so, what lb. test? My current worm and C-rig combos are spooled with braid and a 20lb. big game leader. I purchased a used reel spooled with 20lb. fluoro and thought I'd give it a try before I strip it and respool with braid. 1 Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted August 25, 2021 Super User Posted August 25, 2021 My 'bottom contact' rig, which means T/C-Rigs, Jigs, etc is loaded with 15# Tatsu. Better abrasion resistance than braid, more sensitive than mono...ya, I've tried them both for those techniques...prefer FC. 1 Quote
GReb Posted August 25, 2021 Posted August 25, 2021 15 # Tatsu for me as well. I did enjoy 16lb Sniper too. But Tatsu is better 1 Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted August 25, 2021 Global Moderator Posted August 25, 2021 I use 20# Shooter and 15# Sniper on both bottom contact flouro setups and have for years, never looked back. Joe If you use a quality product even if it costs a little more, and tie your knot correctly (which I’m sure you do) you won’t even read most of the negative comments you see on here. Mike Quote
Fishingmickey Posted August 25, 2021 Posted August 25, 2021 I use 12# - 16# Tatsu or Invisx. On the lighter line I use smaller weights 1/8oz - 3/16 oz and smaller baits. 14#-15# line I use 3/16oz - 3/4oz. I used a bunch of different brands of fluoro before settling in on Invisx and Tatsu. I've tried the Diawa Samurai and I think it is going to be as good as the Seaguar brands. Good luck! FM Quote
Craig P Posted August 25, 2021 Posted August 25, 2021 I was not a floro fan after trying MANY brands and types but Sunline Assassin changed my mind about floro. I don’t use anything else now, SA and braid only where required. Quote
Basseditor Posted August 25, 2021 Posted August 25, 2021 Depending upon cover and location, 15# Tatsu to 20 or 25# Invisx or Abrasx Quote

Super User BrianMDTX Posted August 25, 2021 Super User Posted August 25, 2021 Never tried FC, but am considering it for my dedicated bottom rig (Daiwa Fuego CT and Falcon Lowrider MH/F). Mostly Texas rigs with 3/0 EWG hooks. What’s the consensus on a good knot for that? Having never tried FC but hearing about issues with line breakage due to failed knots, I’d like to see what most use for that application. I normally tie a IC with Big Game or YZH. 1 Quote
Super User WRB Posted August 25, 2021 Super User Posted August 25, 2021 Because the lakes I fish have sparse cover and deep rocky structure any line over 12 lb during the daytime reduces strikes tremendously so 7 lb FC & 5 lb Copolymer spinning, 10 & 12 lb FC casting weighted T-rigs. Exception is night fishing use 15 lb Big Game Mono for shock and abrasion resistance on shorter casts and missing targets by casting onto the bank or in bushes. Tom 3 Quote

There are more flouro line failures due to kinks and fraying than with knots that are tied correctly. I use the San Diego Jam knot regardless of technique and have never had a knot fail. Mike 1 Quote

I've started using the Fish-n-Fool knot, a Uni knot that goes through the hook eye twice before wrapping the Uni knot. I'm sure the regular Uni works too, I just like the doubled line through the eye Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted August 25, 2021 Super User Posted August 25, 2021 i tried flouro for years including this year. i ran the same baits on different rods one with flouro the other with braid. i can honestly say flouro yielded NO MORE BITES THAN BRAID OVER THIS SEASON SO FAR. given that i hate so many other things about it im done with flouro. back to straight braid for me. im done wasting money. Diggy Posted August 25, 2021 Posted August 25, 2021 For me, 12-20lb Shooter, Sniper, Abrazx, Invizx Quote

ThatFishingGuy Posted August 25, 2021 Posted August 25, 2021 I have two spools for the reel of my t-rig rod - one with 30lb braid, the other 15lb tatsu. It's as easy as popping the new spool in and re-rigging if I ever need to switch, and I don't have to mess with leader knots. This is the only rod I do this for, however, as buying extra spools for all my reels would get pricey! Quote
Super User NYWayfarer Posted August 25, 2021 Super User Posted August 25, 2021 My local stretch of river is super clear water with a sandy bottom, some rock and little vegetation. I am able to use 12# Berkley Vanish for my T-Rigs with no issues there. I use a Palomar knot and I am careful to wet the knot before cinching it. Quote
Super User N Florida Mike Posted August 25, 2021 Super User Posted August 25, 2021 I cant stand Floro for worm fishing because it sinks. The problem with it sinking is that I can’t see the twitch when the bass takes the bait. Another issue is on the hookset. It’s harder for me to tell exactly where the fish is on the hooset , and it seems like you’re dragging a lot of water too with Floro. It’s just hard for me to make an accurate hookset with floro. Im one and done with floro for worm fishing… Quote
Super User FishTank Posted August 25, 2021 Super User Posted August 25, 2021 So I have a few set ups that have FC..... 6lb-8lb 100% Trilene XL FC on spinning gear 10lb Seaguar Invizx on my Ned Rig setup (baitcasting) 12lb and 15lb Seaguar Tatsu on 4 different Texas Rig setups 20lb Seaguar Invizx on a T-rig/Swimbait setup 14lb Daiwa Samurai on both of my worm setups on my kayak fishing rods And also 12lb-20lb on all of jig rods and also on one of my deep crankbait rods as well. Never had an issue with any of these for years now. Can't stand straight braid for worm fishing but braid with FC leader, different story. Quote
Skunkmaster-k Posted August 26, 2021 Posted August 26, 2021 Berkley Vanish in 20 # for my ol ball and chain mainline . Quote
