this is more of a rant to a group of my friends(ie u guys reading this)

I moved to this appartment complex ona lake this last fall.   Noticed a number of small alum. boats, pond prowler style boats, and canoes chained to a few trees down by the lake shore.    One of them was a BEAUTIFUL 14 Foot Canoe that was in perfect shape, spare the fact that it was full of dirty stagnate rain water and lots and lots of leaves from the oak tree it was chained to

I went down to the lake today to see what was up with the halfmelted/rain pounded ice sheet on the water...... the canoes got a massive crack down the side of it. ice must have expanded and destroyed it......

what kind of idiot would chain up a nice canoe like that. never use it. and then let it get destroyed. i wish i woulda known whos it was, i woulda bought it and put it to use!

My home lake of Lake Tarpon has the same problem, when I go down the housing canals there might be 1 boat in 20 actually being used more than once a year, now we dont get the sheats of ice her in florida but we do get rain and alot of it and when the batteries die the bilge pump doesnt work and they dont seem to care!!!!!!!!!!!!!! plus the uv rays destroy paint jobs, ticks me off

More than likely, it wasn't the boat owner that left it like that.  Kids come by, and flip them over.  Why?  They're kids.  We have a couple reservoirs here that allow you to chain your boat to a tree near the launch.  This fall, I noticed a new boat chained up wayyyyy too close to the water's edge.  It'll be underwater this spring.

Probably those folks have better/bigger toys (boats) to mess with and neglect lesser items.  I don't know about most guys but I care for my Accurist as much as I care for my higher end reels.

I've found over the years that folks that work hard and long to purchase the stuff, take care of it. Others don't. I had a girlfriends brother early one spring call me from out of town and ask me to haul his boat from a local boat club to his mom's place. The boat had been stored outside all winter. Uncovered - with the plug in! Was totally clear full of water and frozen!!! Had a heck of a time hauling it. Parked it on a slope and pulled the plug and water ran out of it for a month. Inboard V8 ruined along with everything else. Maybe it's somewhat of a generation thing too. I started with a 14 foot lowes flatbottom jon boat and worked my way over long houred work years to my Triton. I don't know about everyone else, but that boat gets only the best treatment.

When I bought my current boat, I sold my old aluminum boat to a neighbor. It has never left the spot where he parked it. It is completely full of coffee colored water, and a mosquito farm. Wish I'd kept it except for the storage problem. What a waste.

Hearing things like this just ticks me off. Because there are tons of tons of anglers without boats who just need something to get out there on the water with. Alot of these boats could be sold, but instead they litter shore lines. I saw a small boat in the water on Lake Jordan recently with the transom slightly rotted and the back in was full of water the motor still on and everything. Sad stuff. Especially to those of us in need of a small boat for pond fishing and trying to get to those hard to reach areas not accessible from the shore.

A few of the campground lakes i fish have big expensive bass boats in this same way. I didn't pay for them and it hurts me to see stuff like that. One that comes to mind is a Nitro Z-7 that is never used, just sits in the water. It has about 3" of leaves in it along with grime and filth everywhere!

My neighbor finally emptied the water in the boat and cleaned it up to sell it. Someone's going to get a nice 14' aluminum boat for @ $450. I'll be glad to see someone who really wants a boat get it and use it.
