There are a few knots that I'll loop around 7 times for good luck, like the Fish N Fool, Trilene, clinch knot, uni, etc.  But if I decide I need more or less for some reason, I'm fine with changing it up.  It's more of an inside joke with myself than a superstition.

Not really but when I go to a local conservation dept lake , private boats are not allowed . They supply 14 foot jon boats . I have one of them marked . Thats my boat . If my boat is already out , then shoot , the day has already started out bad .

I normally fish with my grandson, sometimes his Dad, our son-in-law comes along.  Today my grandson asked why I always waited for everyone to cast and retreave their lines before I make my first cast.  It has become such a habit that I really don't even think about it,  it's just something I've always done. It doesn't matter how many people I go with, I don't make my first cast until everyone else has cast and retreaved their line. My grandson thinks it is weird, but it is ingrained in my fishing as a ritual I guess.

I've carried a Gerber Pixie Trout and Bird knife in my tackle box or bag for the last 50 years. I check to make sure I have it before I leave every time. Lucky charm,  good luck piece, or just a habit, I must have it everytime I fish.

Am I strange or do you have a quirk, a ritual or a lucky charm to help you catch fish? or

Praying for a safe trip and thanking God after each fish I catch, I believe it is a ritual that keeps me safe and keeps morale very high.

No! Don't ever change it! I thought I was the only one that did that ?

No superstitions, but rituals? Absolutely.   Most involving preparation,  loading, unloading,  etc.  If one step gets off track, my day can go south quickly.   If someone 'helps' in middle of process...or even starts a conversation while loading/launching, I'm almost certain to forget something.   I haven't documented,  but I'd bet if I made step by step instructions for load to launch of my yak and gear for a tournament,  there could be 500 different steps....I'm not too far on the OCD spectrum,  but a little actually helps when you're old and your memory sux

I have a ritual.  Anytime I touch my transom saver I touch the plug.  If I’m in the garage and adjust the transom saver, I will reach over and touch the plug.  Over the years I have turned this ritual into a habit.  The goal of course it to make sure that every time I launch the boat I will put in the plug after I remove the transom saver.

Ritual

Preparation

It doesn't matter if I'm walking 35 steps out my front door to fish the bayou across the street with my grandson or if I was fishing the Bassmaster Classic.

Preperation for both will be the same!

One thing the has always puzzled me is when anglers talk about having one way to fish during a fun day fishing. And different approach to tournament fishing.

Only know one way ?

I do seven loops for an IC because...that's what my dad taught me. So far it hasn't failed me.

I don't have superstitions. Rituals? Yepper. Have to lay out my towel, fish grippers, scale and hook removal devices before the first cast. Forgetting to do so gives me the willies. Not due to a superstition, but the fact that I do not want to catch a bass and need those items and have to dig for them while a big 'un is on the line.

I only have these superstitions:

1: After launching ..start fishing at the ramp first.

2: Use the lures tied on from last trip...at least for a bit.

3: Retrieve all lost floats from the water.

4: Especially retrieve all lures.

5: Retrieve floating trash from water...to a point.

These 5 superstitions are guaranteed good mojo on any lake.

No superstitions here. Ritual? Prep work like mentioned above. Check hooks, line...check supplies in the tackle bag.

I can’t say I have any rituals or superstitions. I get myself prepared prior to leaving the hoses. Have things where they belong and all. I’m pretty anal about making noise on a boat deck. Just how I am.

But like you if I have my grandsons with me they are casting a time or two before my line ever hits the water. I generally fish myself so I’m all about them when I get them out.

I’ve had friends and some aquatintences  over the years ask me to take them out. I believe it is mostly because they were wondering why I’m so intrigued and hung up with this bass fishing. And them getting out doing something different. I don’t think any of them caught a bass prior to me taking them out. During these time I’d cast very little, made it more about them.

I like to be the last one launching from the ramp.  It gives me a chance to see what everyone else is using for bait, and the direction they are heading.

I generally don't carry bananas when I go fishing, more because of others' concern than mine.

I do always wear the same thong swimsuit and nothing else when fishing.  It doesn't always help me fish, but it does keep the spot stealing to a minimum.  In fact, most times, if I come up on a cove where someone's fishing, I don't even get the chance to leave the angler to his/her business.  The boat just takes off as if to say, "Buddy, this spot is yours."  I definitely recommend trying to find your own good luck garmet.

I leave a tobacco offering on my walk to the launch point. Once on the water I leave tobacco offerings for the 4 directions, the water, the air, Creation and The Creator. In prayer I express my thanks for being allowed the privilege to fish in this magnificent place and only ask for safe passage through it and that any fish I catch can be released unharmed....

Rituals such as checking equipment/gear ahead of each trip probably help with catching fish.  Superstitious rituals such as waving a dead chicken over your equipment/gear probably don't help with anything at all.
