Anyone have any tips on lures/locations for largemouth and smallmouth on Pigeon Lake in the Kawarthas region?

There doesn’t seem to be a lot of Canadian traffic on this site.  We’re down in Kingston and I’ve fished a little in the Kawarthas, but not Pigeon Lake.

When I was looking for smallmouth spots on Weslemkoon Lake I signed up (free) on anglersatlas.com and looked at the contour map.  That was a help.  There’s also a bit of basic info on species in the lake.

I haven’t fished it in over 15 years, but used to fish tournaments all through the kawarthas. Smallies we’re often out deeper on any rock or sand areas, and the best largemouth we’re often caught by us fishing docks and/or shallow, thick slop weeds. Jigs, Texas rigs and punching were the best for largemouth, and smallmouth often hit crankbaits, spinnerbaits or tubes dragged in the deeper areas.

Kellss… how’s you do on Pigeon Lake?

@The Baron It’s been slow for me the last few weeks. I’ve been trying to change up the lures and locations (football jigs, jerkbaits, deep diving crankbaits, etc.). The main thing I struggle with I think is getting to the right spot and finding the bass. The boat I use is an aluminum V-Boat hand me down from 50 years ago with a 6HP motor on the back. It works so I’m not gonna complain, but also getting to places on the lake can be a pain. For now I’ve got to work with what I got and I’m hoping I can purchase a boat for myself soon enough.

@Kellss  I’m in the same boat… a borrowed one. ?  Only get to boat fish when we’re at a buddy’s cottage or my Dads place, where we have use of a tinner.   A fishing boat is top of our wish list here.  Hopefully COVID pricing will settle down and we can find something modest.

Fishing has been generally tough here too, with poor results with hard baits.  Topwater and frogs have been decent.  For any water over 8-10ft, try a dropshot and slow things right down around any structure.  A MaxScent minnow or flatworm (if you can find them) for smallmouth or drop shot/wacky rig a senko for largemouth.  If fishing shallow, a 5” wacky rigged weightless senko is usually a good bet.
