Bush league move.  I'm not a fan.

This happened a couple weeks ago to a TN angler and allowed him to win $200,000 on the FLW pro circuit:

Literally, as I pulled up, there was a guy in a Jon boat that was slinging a topwater and he was like a half a cast away from my fish. I don’t think he knew what was there, but he was really close to finding out.

“He was a total class act,” Washam said. “I pulled up and said, ‘Good morning.’ Of course, I was going to ask him as politely as I could if he minded giving me a little space for a couple hours. I didn’t even have to ask, he picked up the trolling motor and left. He came back as a spectator later, and come to find out, he works at the sheriff’s office in La Crosse.”

I’m missing how it’s anyone else’s fault someone thought a $150 tourney fee was smart on a crowded PUBLIC lake.  Like, I hope these people don’t use the sidewalk during a 5k.

I've run into it a lot while kayak fishing.  For some reason some boat tourney guys think they have priority over everyone else because they are competing for money.  I get why they would think it but that doesn't make it right.

I was fishing a tourney on the Mississippi River and I had multiple boats come right up next to me in the spot I was fishing.  It was obviously a popular spot and they had no issues getting within 10 feet of me.  They were polite talking to me but never asked if it was ok if they could fish right on top of me.  They told me they were fishing in a tourney as if that made it acceptable.  I responded by telling them that I was also fishing in a tourney but it was a kayak tourney.  They asked me details on how it all worked and then I proceeded to tell them how I was currently in 2nd place.  I think they finally got the hint that I didn't want them there.

The vid with Ike was on the Potomac.  That river has the most rude fishermen I have ever seen.  It’s commonplace to come in on you and you have to know how to protect the area you are fishing.  That being said, I have had run ins with fishermen in an open bow ski boat just drifting and fishing, that would have hit us if we didn’t move.  Their response…”you guys have a trolling motor, I don’t”.  Likewise, we were on good fish in a bay on St Clair and there was a kayak tournament.  Unfortunately the fish we had found were in somewhat shallow and every time we hooked up, we got swarmed by kayaks.  Some even followed us everywhere we went in that bay.  Common courtesy isn’t that common anymore.

I've  not had many problems because  I fish 2 charity tournaments a year. I know 99% of the guys fishing.

There are a few times a year when there are open club tournaments and a buddy will ask me to partner up. These are small tournaments with a payout of less then $900.00 if you win the derby and big fish. The majority of the guys are good folks; they want to win but aren't disrespectful in any way. But there's  always 1-2 that think this is the classic. They're  bullies while fishing. It's  pitiful.

I work 12 shifts and have every other weekend off, I don’t fish weekends but fish during the week if time allows. Anyway I was fishing on a Thursday on Hartwell didn’t know a BASS Elite series tournament had just started. I came to my favorite fishing spot to start the day. Two boats were there but its a big area so I didn’t think much about it and started fishing. One of the boats left so I went to where he was at and caught one at which time my wife said the the man in the other boat was watching me but didn’t say anything.  Anyway when I found out that there was a tournament going on I was surprised but kept fishing. Anyway I went to another area and a pro came behind me at a safe distance. I offered to to get out of the way which he was glad about but was very nice and thank me for doing that. We talk for a minute and he thank me again.

Its amazing what happens when people are respectful and polite. Anyway that’s my story

@Columbia Craw, I’m surprised no one asked if you were gonna buy the world a Coke and keep it company…

"It's part of the sport."

But is it a sport if there isn't sportsmanship? Where is the line between sport and cutthroat business?

Lol. I still have yet to have someone answer my question: if sports the way we are letting them be done teaches people to be these paragons of humility, integrity, and grace…why do they need refs?

Lots of tourneys on my local water hole but I've NEVER had an issue with another fisherman on a "spot." It's always been "which way you going? Mind if I fish behind?" or something like "Hey I'm not cutting you off I'm just going around you and going back there." I've had those type things said to me and I've said those type things to others. I've never been unpolite and I've never had anyone approach me rudely either. It's just always worked out for me in a friendly manner.

Now jet skiers and other type skiers have even zoomed around me in no wake zones or buzzed around me when 50yds away there's 200 more acres of water just like I'm sitting in. I've had a few words with those types but nothing that evolved.

On the flip side, those nice polite fisherman out on the water where we share spots politely or give each other courtesy turn into anuses at the boat ramp. Launching or loading out you can sit there next in line and someone will cut in front of you very blatantly. In my kayak it's really no factor I rarely use the ramp, I prefer the grass to the side and it's friendlier to the bottom of my kayak. In my boat people will cut in front of you getting in or out.

I could careless if someone is fishing a tournament, if I'm already fishing a spot they can go somewhere else, if they impede my space I'll start throwing a 10 inch Huddleston all around their boat and crossing their line while making direct eye contact and a smile, tournament angler's don't get special treatment for feeling entitled I don't care if it's KVD.

People cut in line in front of you waiting at the access?

They do that to me almost every time I go to a boat ramp (which is a lot). then when they go to park, they see me standing there waiting and apologize haha. I think they are too excited to wait

That's not really what I meant.  I meant while you're waiting in line in your truck.  Sorry maybe I wasn't clear on that when I asked the original question.

That is kind of what I mean. I’m not usually sitting in my truck but I’m standing next to it watching helpless people attempt to clear the ramp. Inevitably once it clears, someone whips into the parking lot and right onto the clear ramp I had been waiting on

That's absurd.  That wouldn't fly where I fish.
