RichF Posted August 24, 2021 Posted August 24, 2021 Senko. I used them a lot when I was a kid but now I can't throw one more than 3 or 4 casts before putting it down. It wears on me mentally. Quote
Deephaven Posted August 24, 2021 Posted August 24, 2021 When it is working I don't get tired, when it isn't all sorts of baits either fatigue me physically or mentally. Not sure which is worse 1 Quote
Super User Columbia Craw Posted August 24, 2021 Super User Posted August 24, 2021 Fishing a jet sit aggressively can tire my wrist some. Deep cranking doesn’t really tire me out but my combo handles those baits well. Nothing else seems to cause any fatigue. It’s amazing how much a 100 mm handle helps. Quote
Biglittle8 Posted August 24, 2021 Posted August 24, 2021 "A" rig, those things work, but they are a pain to cast and retrieve. Don't use them much anymore. Quote
Super User islandbass Posted August 24, 2021 Super User Posted August 24, 2021 As angler that has until recently been more on the finesse side of bass fishing and never cranked anything deeper than a DT10, I can’t recall being ultra fatigued from bass fishing. However jigging heavy lures like buzz bombs, lead type jigging spoons for hours with a minimum 8’6” rod for salmon will put a hurt on you such that you’ll force yourself to switch hit just to keep going. Diggy Posted August 24, 2021 Posted August 24, 2021 I bank fish in Florida sun so, I tend to limit heavy baits or baits with a lot of drag in the water, especially if I'm using faster reels. I don't feel I need anything over 7 speed at this point. I do have a xh rod that can make many heavy baits move like finesse baits on a lift fall retrieve, but it's not always with me. The heaviest swimbait I tend to fish is 4oz right now and ones that move freely in the water for the most part. Quote
heavyduty Posted August 24, 2021 Posted August 24, 2021 Chunking spinnerbaits all day for river smallmouth. I get sore across my back from one arm pit to the other across the shoulder blades after about 6hrs. If they are crushing them, the fun outweighs the pain! Usually a couple ibuprofen takes the edge off. Quote
Big Rick Posted August 24, 2021 Posted August 24, 2021 A visit to my chiropractor, who also fishes, sets me right regardless of the techniques that wore me down the day before. I have learned that maintenance on my physique is much more rewarding than ignoring what my body is telling me. That said, I abhor deep diving crank baits. I know they catch fish but the incessant pressure of the bill while reeling is very tiring. And regardless of your physical condition doing any laborious exercises for hours on end is tiring. Still, I love fishing too much and push my limits to the point I have to go see doc to get the old bod realigned. Worth it....well worth it. Quote
Super User N Florida Mike Posted August 25, 2021 Super User Posted August 25, 2021 On 8/21/2021 at 10:22 AM, Mobasser said: Because of the weeds in my local lakes, I can't do much deep cranking anymore. I used to enjoy this, and at times it worked well. It also made me physically tired after a few hours. I would imagine that big swimbaits, because of the heavy tackle needed, can wear you out also. In a past thread on jig fishing, WRB made the statement that jig fishing is tiring. For me, this is 100% true. The constant staring at your line where it enters the water, and being on the ready for a soft hit from a bass, can be mentally tiring for sure. The concentration and focus needed to be good at jig fishing is tough. Jigs are my most tiring bait to fish. Are there any baits that seem wear you down more than others? Frog fishing does for me sometimes. I dont know if it’s truly wearing me out, but I quickly tire while fishing it. Im usually good for about 45 minutes , and can’t stand it anymore. More boredom than physical. I make myself do it occasionally, remembering the 7.3 I caught with one . I think if I could just get on a good bite again I would be revived, but it’s been slow with frogs this year …I also try big swimbaits occasionally and get bored AND tired very quickly… 1 Quote
CrankFate Posted August 25, 2021 Posted August 25, 2021 I’m sorry. I have to….. If the jig wears you down. It means the jig is up. 1 Quote
