Super User Munkin Posted August 20, 2021 Super User Posted August 20, 2021 Of these 3 what is your preference? Building more prototype heads and wanted to get everyone's opinions. Lead keepers have always worked for me but some people swear by the wire keepers. The top one is usually reserved for spinnerbaits so I can dial in a specific weight. So which one does everyone prefer and why? Allen Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted August 20, 2021 Super User Posted August 20, 2021 I prefer the wire keepers - if I'm going to re-use a bait, they seem to tear it up less than the lead wedge-hooks. 1 Quote

Tatsu Dave Posted August 20, 2021 Posted August 20, 2021 Make it three, wire keepers are my favorite. Quote
heavyduty Posted August 20, 2021 Posted August 20, 2021 Wire here as well for the same reasons above. The lead point tends to blow out the plastic, especially smaller diameter plastic trailers like worms, twin tails. Lead point not as bad with a chunk, beaver, craw, more bulky body trailer Quote
Super User Munkin Posted August 20, 2021 Author Super User Posted August 20, 2021 Looks like wire keepers are in the lead which is good for me as they are easier to pour. I sent some samples out to a couple different places trying to get them to make me a double wire keeper. Allen Quote
Super User Boomstick Posted August 21, 2021 Super User Posted August 21, 2021 I definitely prefer the wire keepers as they damage soft plastics the least, but they all work. Quote
Can't Catch Bass Posted August 21, 2021 Posted August 21, 2021 Wire, wire, wire!!! I'm a shore fisherman, so I have to walk around strapped to anything I fish. I only fish zman green pumpkin plastics. Quote
Super User T-Billy Posted August 21, 2021 Super User Posted August 21, 2021 Wire for sure. Same reasons as above. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted August 22, 2021 Super User Posted August 22, 2021 Single wire for small trailers like chunks and crawls and a double wire for swimbait type trailers. Quote
Kenny Yi Posted August 22, 2021 Posted August 22, 2021 I've used so many lead wedge keepers and have gotten pantsed after 5 casts everytime, I wish more jigs would do wire keepers Quote
