After about an hour using a maxscent general it seems to me all the scent is gone and its just a standard, non durable stick bait after that. Am I wrong? Gulp you can throw back in the juice and it recharges it but once the scent is washed off the maxscent stuff is it basically a non scented lure? Ive left them on a hook for a few days and they didn't dry out and shrivel up like Gulp does thankfully!

Seems the same result here as asking Berkley on Facebook. No one says anything. Is it because the scent washes off after a while and you have just regular lures and dont want to tarnish the maxscent image?

Just like any scent.....  It's only good for so long and you need to put on a fresh one.

Like most things that stink, it comes off with water and motion.  You can buy the Powerbait scent in a spray bottle but in the end the fish really don't smell it all that well.  It just causes the fish to hang on longer.   They like the taste I guess.   In any case, the Powerbait stuff works.

I did the same thing and my general not drying out, so I kept on hook for next time use.

They still have great action and are really soft so they move good but they don't last super long. I think my o-rings are too small though.

For pretty much every stick bait that I've encountered that I want to throw wacky style, the correct size o-ring is 3/8" OD - 1/4" ID.  Some type of lubrication is required to get them placed on the stick bait correctly.   You could use some oily scent spray like the Gambler BANG, but slobber works for me.

To reply to your question about MaxScent - don't have a clue - haven't used them enough to have an opinion.

I use a wacky tool but never thought about a lube. I have a can of Bang I carry with me so I will try that. Also Gambler makes Bang??

All scents seem to fade in water and air, keep them in the resealable packs they come in and use them as intended. They are wicked flat and dull colored and don't last thru too many mauling's. I bought some and don't think they justified the price, didn't seem much better than other stickbaits. The coffee scented Strike King seem to cause bass to give you plenty of time to set hook, too long and the lure is gonna be swallowed....not good. JJ's gives them a heavy garlic scent that lasts a spell as well.

When Berkley introduced scented Power Worms over 25 years ago the scent appeared to vanish after a few hours of use. The trick learned was to lightly roughen up the worm skin with sand paper to rejuvenate the scent.

Hand pour worm makers ground up Power Worms to add to the plastisol to gain scent they couldn’t get on the market.

I can see the same thing happening with MaxScent worms.

I need to get some clear JJs. That stuff is potent and lasts.

Interesting. The maxscent worms seem wet but worth a try for sure.

Everyone should know that bass are not primarily scent feeders, they are sight feeders. The ability for bass to detect odors through olfactory nostrils exists but texture and taste are more important.

What this means is bass don’t track down prey by odors, negative odor can however repel the strike quickly at very close range or in the mouth. At best scent helps angler when bass keep the lure in their mouth. What we smell means little to nothing beyond confidence, it’s odors, texture and taste  bass prefer that matters.

I think they do lose much of their scent after extensive use.  But just because we can't smell it anymore doesn't mean they can't still taste it once inhaling the bait, and maybe giving you the extra second to take a swing.

I've never had one last long enough to find out, the fish always eat them first ?

You may have also noticed it shrunk in size over time so it's certainly losing moisture. I put them back in the bag to recharge them. They will absorb some if the moisture again.  Or add scent and they will hold on to it longer since they are so porous. You can also add them to gulp alive jar and they will absorb so much they grow almost 25%.

Yes I’d agree with this.  It seems the more the worm gets beat up by fish the better it is.
