Brendan Duffy Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 I have a new tracker 12' riveted jon boat. http://www.trackerboats.com/boat/gallery.cfm?boat=3258 Do you think I could make a deck from the first bench to the bow of the boat? Is this feasible? Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted February 7, 2010 Super User Posted February 7, 2010 I recently look at those with the exact same thought in mind. But those are some pretty narrow boats at the bottom. I would be really leery of how stable that would be standing on a deck. Quote

Of course the bow is narrowest point, so I'll have to take that into consideration. Quote
Carrington Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 ya i just built one, it works ok, just make sure you can balance. Quote

FL Knifemaker Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 IMHO, you would be MUCH happier with adding a floor that would support a swivel seat. That will make landing fish and standing to cast or flip MUCH easier. I've seen guys build up decks as you described only to take them back out again after a few days on the water. Quote
Brian B Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 I agree with KL. My cousin has a 16ft jon and he put a floor in. It makes movin around in the boat so much easier. Your gear doesnt get stuck and you actually make the boat seem more stable. I would also recommend sealing the edges of the floor with some type of spray in foam. It keeps water out from under the floor and things like weights and sinkers from going under too Quote

Super User J Francho Posted February 9, 2010 Super User Posted February 9, 2010 I'd keep it simple, and light. I wouldn't go with full casting decks, or even pedestal seating, as that would get in the way. A solid, flat floor, and boat carpet on the entire interior would be perfect. Add a TM, and a graph/GPS unit, and you're good to go. Quote
jenga Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 A recent issue of bassmasters has directions on how to turn you jon boat into ones with a floor. I thought about doing it to my jon boat before I bought my skeeter. the issue is from last year I think. Jenga Quote
