I use them because of smallies, so I dont need to use nail polish anymore. and the color really solid and not wearing off easy.

For me Ned is routinely fished at least 8 feet deep and often deeper.

It's done with a Daiwa Tatula Elite AGS  7'6" ML Spinner and a

Tatula LT Silver 3000 size Spinning Reel loaded with

8lb Seaguar Smackdown braid mainline with a fairly long 8lb Tatsu leader.

This set up casts & fishes the light bait nicely with plenty of everything else I need.

St Croix Avid X, 6'9" ML/XF with a Daiwa BG 2000 reel. Works great, I even catch trout on a ned rig time to time. Sunline SX1 12# with a 6# fluoro leader.

We have a series of small connected ponds about 15 miles north of me. The water is clear and cool but we are talking tiny not very deep so they are the first to open up at ice out. Coolest part is the South Dakota dnr stocks them with rainbows. At ice out ill throw small lipless and Ned rig in these ponds...I usually catch more trout than bass. Its alot of fun after staring thru a hole in the ice for 3-5months.

The first toe I dipped into tackle addiction was getting a custom rod made specifically for the Ned. I wanted something short with a short butt for yak fishing.  Got a 6’ MHX M/F blank with Microwave guides.   Paired with a Ci4+ 1000 and 7lb Sniper, it’s perfect for what I wanted.  For wading smaller creeks I use an SJR6400 with a 1000 FJ and 6lb mono.

Despite being deep into bfs/finesse casting, the Ned is one of the few presentations where I prefer spinning tackle.  I do throw the Ned on bfs gear from time to time, but I use spinning rods far more often.

Champion 732SF, with a 3000 Ballistic LT filled with 10 J Braid and a 13 foot leader.  I rarely fish a Ned shallower that 10 feet. I’m a huge fan of Siebert’s 5/32 morel Ned heads.

have 4 : dobyns fury 661 + 662 (662 has a quantum throttle (10) )

13 fishing black muse 6'10" ml

                ark lancer 6'10" ml

the other 3 have daiwa regal 1000s ( really like these inexpensive reels  , imo has a great drag ) and 6# mono.

takes care of my ned/finesse/ dropshot needs.

I used a Cortland CTR 6’-3” light power x-fast action with a Daiwa Laguna 1500 spooled with 6lb Cortland monofilament. The Daiwa has been moved to a 6’-6” bps bionic blade med. powered mod. action rod and the Cortland rod now has a bps pro qualifier 1000 size reel with 4 lb Kastking fluorokote line. I use both for ned rigs but I prefer the Cortland combo.

I'm using an iRod 742. An ancient Pflueger Trion, which desperately needs upgrading, sits underneath it.

Bought the rod mainly for dropshots and spybaits, but it does well with Ned's on the heavier side. I'm usually fishing over 18ft deep, so I don't think I even own a 1/16 head.

Anyone use a NRX 803S JWR? wondering if it would be good for a ned rig or too short and stiff?
