So, I went out to fish a pond in my neighborhood today and had a funny incident happen. I caught a small bass and released it. Upon entering the water the bass got tangled up in some weeds and was stuck sideways with it's gill hung up. Me being the fish loving guy I am, decided (rightfully so) to help this poor fellow. The bank was steep and we have had a lot of rain the last few days, as I crouched and started to unstick the fish I began to slide towards the water. I regained my footing and then the bank started slowly crumbling under me! I grasped at the briars to keep from going in. This went on for what seemed like 10 seconds or so. Just when I thought I was safe my backpack flipped up over my head and I fell head first into the pond. It was only about 3 or 4 ft deep, with no gators in sight. I laughed so hard then I realized a lady was watching the whole thing. So I just climbed out, grabbed my rod and started casting again. I thought about how hilarious I must have looked to that lady.

I bet it was quite the site ā€¦.. she was probably going ā€¦.ā€ Heā€™s got it , heā€™s got it ā€¦. Nope he donā€™t got itā€ā€¦. Just as you fell in.Ā
Some of my best laughs have been at myself, glad you didnā€™t let it ruin your day.Ā

I was fishing a new to me pond a few years ago. There was a large slab of concrete in the water a few feet off the bank. Stepping on that would have allowed me to be able to hit a weed line. I leaped onto it and it was slick as ice. I feel backwards and was inches away from impaling myself with a sharp metal pole sticking out of the water. I've been absurdly careful along the banks ever since.

Sometimes I find myself dropping my guard, stories like yours make me slow down and think.

Thatā€™s hilarious, I would have hollered to the lady that it was hot and I needed to swim, and that backpack was my new fold over your head style life jacketĀ

The only comeback I had was climbing out grabbing the rod and fishing... Now that I think about it, it was a lame response and she probably saw right through it all the way to my total embarrassment ?but alas, comedy was made.

I wish I had a bar of soap, then she would have known how classy I am.

One time I was clowning around on my deck trying to act like Mike Iaconnelli (not break dancing or spinning, Iā€™mĀ a bit heavy for that) but running and jumping around screaming how I had a Bigā€™un on. Truth an 11ā€ Smallie. My foot hit the rear part of the gunnel just right and over I went. My arm was able to catch the gunnel so I really didnā€™t go all the way under. Bout 7 feet of water. Never lost my rod or the fish. It all happened so fast. I got a good laugh over it.Ā

Earlier this year I noticed a car parked by the ramp I was launching from.Ā  The windows were tinted but I could tell there was someone in the car using their phone to video what was happening on the ramp.Ā  There's probably good money to be made in videos of fishermen making fools of themselves.

I can think of countless times I could have foundĀ youtube or AFV stardom if I had been on camera.

Oh man, she'll be telling that great story forever.

Ā

The fish probably went back and told the story to his buddies too. ItĀ probably led to a discussionĀ about whether fish or fishermen are smarter...just like we have about fish. You didn't helpĀ our sideĀ @Biglittle8!Ā ?

Ā

Seriously, glad you're OK, and thanks for sharing.

I was loading my boat on the trailer one day.Ā  As I often am, I was alone.Ā  There was a family fishing on the dock and the Dad offered to assist but I declined his offer.Ā  It was sometime in the fall or winter so the water temps were pretty cold.Ā  At that time, I would usually ride the boat up on the trailer, climb over the front to winch it up, then climb back into the boat so as to step onto the dock.Ā  Well, as I was climbing back in, my right foot slipped off the gunnel.Ā  I face planted on my trolling motor with the foot pedal squarely on my chest.Ā  My mouth smashed against either the trolling motor bracket or the port gunnel.Ā  Huge bleeding fat lip.Ā  I get up and turn around, the whole family was watching with their mouths agape, trying not to laugh.Ā  All I could think to say was, "Well, that didn't go quite the way I planned it."

about a month ago I had just finished putting in my new Force TM on 24v, previously only had a 45lb thrust 12v. Well I cranked the speed up to about 7 or 8, put the TM in the water and didnt realize since the peddle wasnt center the TM would quickly go that way once I put in any direction input. Well I hit the gas and must have moved the peddle a little and the front shot left HARD. I instinctively threw my foot hard right and pushed to keep myself from both falling and going over the side, over stretched my leg and fell backwards mid fall and somersaulted backwards off my deck into the seated area. Fortunately and unfortunately no one was around...after all that I wanted it to at least be entertaining for someone other than myself.

Ā

It was a hell of a ride.

I had a similar incident a few weeks ago. Iā€™m lucky enough to have a few nice ponds near the clinic I work at and I was fishing about an hour before my clientĀ was scheduledĀ to arrive for our session. We had some heavy rains in the days leading so everything was wet.
Well, it was time for me to head back to workĀ so I packed up and started to walk along the bank toward the clinic and slipped on a patch of mud that was slicker than snot. Mind you, my clientĀ was due to arrive in about 5 minutes and here I am covered from behind to elbow in dark brown mud on my nice light gray scrub pants and white tee shirt. I get to the clinic and rush into the bathroom to try to clean up as best I can but it didnā€™t help a bit. I looked like I had been in a battle with dysentery and lost.Ā

I walk out to the parking lot to get my client from his mothersĀ vehicle to start our session and have to explain why Iā€™m covered in mud. I ended up calling my wife to bring me a fresh pair of clothes and of course she thought it was hilarious. So she shows up with a pair of BRIGHT PINK scrub pantsĀ just to rub it inĀ ?. Needless to say I now carry two extra pairs of work clothes in my car at all times.Ā

Someday somebody might lose their phone by running around pointing it at people. I guess it's what people do these day and it's creepy.Ā

I see, so falling in is not an unusualĀ thing with members, I thought about telling my tale but decided it was way more fun reading about everyone else. Launching a boat and bringing it in solo can be harrowing and entertainingĀ sometimesĀ ?Ā Good Thread....
