New chatterbait head

Finally got my prototypes finished and was able to make a mold.  This I pieced together parts from 3 other baits.

Not sure about the rear section? Thinking I will need to switch it out for something better.

The head looks nice, but the part the trailer should push up on looks really thick.

Looks good Allen. I like the eyes , stout hook ,and wire keeper. I like the extra lead down the shank, but a taperered, tube - like design i think i would like a little more. (it doesn't matter what i think) Looks a little tricky to install the blade. I am sure it will be fine as - is.  Post a pic of a finished one if you can.

Going to try what I have but plan on making another prototype using this rear section.  Only issue is going to be getting the correct weight.

This is the chatterbait head of my dreams...if it's 1/8oz 

My only reason for getting into making chatters was to make a micro with an actual baitkeeper...

The thick lead base hasn't caused me any issues on the ones I've made and they work well, much easier to make the ones I do than it is to find chartreuse micros and they punch through weeds better. I've found the offshore angle stand-up jigheads with the open eye hook eliminate a split ring and retain the action I want. Always excited to try something new though

Those are heads lurepartsonline sell that only come in 3/8 and 1/2oz. The one pictured I made a mold for someone since LPO was way behind and he wanted to use other hooks. 

 

Try the Sparkie heads mold if you can pour them yourself? I have not tried to make a 1/8 but I made about a dozen 3/16.

I like the 1/8 a lot for the slower fall rate and compact presentation options, opens up some finesse type actions that are tougher to get at slow speeds with heavier lures and will outfish others at a heavily pressured pond. I don't own a pot but this whole thing has me thinking I should get one. The lures I've made work really, REALLY well on the slow retrieve I prefer with a chatterbait, but they do circles when I try to bring them in with speed. They catch fish, though, as well or better than the zman micros when fished slow. Eliminating a split ring using a flat eye jig made a huge huge difference. As Marling Baits would say, "It's offishial"
