Fred Allen Posted August 7, 2021 Posted August 7, 2021 Really a great place for any day but anyone knows with kayak wind can ruin the fishing. This spot has tone of islands of vegetation that no matter what the wind is you can easily get pinned to a spot to fish good from. Full of bass too these pictures are from last week or so and smallest bass was 14 inch biggest was 19 inch. All caught on top water frog type lure "SLAYER RATZ JR". Place is called Carters Pond in Greenwich, NY. Dont tell too many people though because I been there a bunch this summer and only ever seen 1 other person he was on kayak and a kid fishing from shore. 8 1 Quote
David 7 Posted August 7, 2021 Posted August 7, 2021 Good to know! I grew up on Cossayuna which is right next to that pond. 1 Quote
Fred Allen Posted August 7, 2021 Author Posted August 7, 2021 Just now, David 7 said: Good to know! I grew up on Cossayuna which is right next to that pond. Yeah cool I keep almost going to cossayuna but always end up going to carters because I know carters is going to be good so I cant take a chance! I have almost paddled to cossayuna from carters before without knowing they are connected by the river until after I looked on google map online. I dont know if you can actually do it but I went pretty far catching bass the whole way. What else I like about carters is I never once got a pickerel or pike. Just bass and sometimes a blue gill or crappie. So many of my good places to fish are all catching nothing but pickerels now. 2 Quote
David 7 Posted August 7, 2021 Posted August 7, 2021 Thanks for this tip, I will definitely check it out. And don’t worry, I won’t tell anyone. Don’t want to see it get blown up. It probably sees little to no fishing pressure because it’s right next to the lake which gets all the pressure. Quote
BoatSquirrel Posted August 7, 2021 Posted August 7, 2021 Feels like you are stealing one when you find that pond you can fish in a hurricane and everyone else has to sit it out! Good looking water! Quote
desmobob Posted August 7, 2021 Posted August 7, 2021 I've float-tubed it and had a blast with crappies on the fly rod, too. Didn't see another person all day. 4 Quote

Krux5506 Posted August 10, 2021 Posted August 10, 2021 Always good to have those back up spots for the harsh weather days. Don't worry though I'm over 4 hours away from it, lol. Quote
JimT Posted August 10, 2021 Posted August 10, 2021 I really appreciate tips like this to spots, I'm also pretty far away from it to take advantage of the intel, but if I'm ever in that neck of the woods with the kayak I'd love to give it a try. Quote
David 7 Posted August 17, 2021 Posted August 17, 2021 @Fred Allen I’m pretty sure I saw you there this afternoon. Saw someone fishing from a green kayak. I was in a seafoam colored Pelican kayak. The pond was good to me. The fishing was very slow but I did manage to get one good bass that kept the skunk away. I will definitely be back. 2 Quote
Fred Allen Posted August 17, 2021 Author Posted August 17, 2021 Yes I was there yesterday. I got there around 6am and fished until 2pm. I got a lot of bass one really small one then the rest were 12-18 inch bass. Got one on a original floating rapala in the open water by weed line the rest were in the green muck with a frog. The blue gills were popping all over the open water I imagine there were getting chased by bass but I got too many blue gills trying to get to the bass on my lures. Even got 2 blue gills at the same time once. It was a good day overall and weather was perfect. 1 1 Quote
David 7 Posted August 17, 2021 Posted August 17, 2021 Very nice! I was fishing with a senko but I will throw some top water next time. I was there 1pm- 6pm. Next time I will have to say hello, thank you for the tips! Sadly after you left a shore fisherman came and left their pole and a can of night crawlers on the shore when they left. I did meet a very nice couple though as I was leaving. Really look forward to coming back again. Quote
Super User Boomstick Posted November 28, 2021 Super User Posted November 28, 2021 I just realized I live a little over a hour away. I have never fished this spot but I might have to give it a shot next year. Quote
Landis Carrier Posted January 2, 2022 Posted January 2, 2022 I absolutely love fishing water like that! The slop that not many other like. Quote
walleyecrazy Posted January 26, 2022 Posted January 26, 2022 Thank you for the heads up on the spot. I'm only about 30 minutes from there so I will have to check it out in the spring. Quote
