Dxdger30 Posted August 6, 2021 Posted August 6, 2021 So coming up in September I have some tournaments at Lake of the Ozarks and was wanting to weigh my options. I know usually around that time of the year big worms will play a factor there. I was also considering doing some shakey head fishing with some bigger shakey head style worms around 8" instead of my normal 6". What size shakey head do you think I should pair with that size? Also, do you think its worth having a big worm and a big shakey head rigged up or just stick with one? Just trying to weigh my options with the select amount of rods ill have on deck. Thanks in advance Quote

Super User Catt Posted August 7, 2021 Super User Posted August 7, 2021 6th Sense Divine Shakey Head 1/4 oz - 3/0, 3/8 oz - 6/0, 5/8 oz - 7/0 1 Quote
papajoe222 Posted August 7, 2021 Posted August 7, 2021 I use the 3/8oz. MegaStrike shakey head and a Zoom Magnum Trick Worm in the summer quite a bit. Stick with thin worms if you're going to go longer as a long, fat worm will topple the jig onto its side. 1 Quote
Super User ChrisD46 Posted August 7, 2021 Super User Posted August 7, 2021 Not inexpensive - but I use this for the big Strike King 8" Bull straight tale Worms : https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Strike_King_Tour_Grade_Mag_Jig_Head_2pk/descpage-SKTGMSH.html?from=gshop&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI4JGr-uOe8gIVE21vBB1RiwZSEAQYBSABEgKNffD_BwE . Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted August 11, 2021 Global Moderator Posted August 11, 2021 The Zoom Magnum Trick Worm is kind of the gold standard for a summer time shakyhead worm on LOZ. Quote
rangerjockey Posted August 11, 2021 Posted August 11, 2021 I've been using the 5 fish lures in the 1/2 oz. for a 2 years now. They were really designed here for the Ozark lakes and have a unique head shape that's really good in the brush piles and a good stout hook. Magnum Trick worm or the old monster. I would think September ,especially later in the month would be on the back side of that bite. Quote

I've been really liking the Googan Baits Slim Shake and 6th Sense Divine but I'm always down to try other things. I love using the Zoom Ol' Monster for big worm fishing so im sure I wouldnt have any doubts for the Trick Worm. Quote
rangerjockey Posted August 12, 2021 Posted August 12, 2021 5 fish has a web site. Also Bait-Wrx in Springfield has them at the store and online. The best tackle store I've been in for the Ozark lakes and really anywhere for that matter. If your traveling anywhere close to it ,it's a unbelievable place and been open a few months now. I'll let Blue speak to his favorite colors.. For me it's Plum ,Red shad and Watermelon Candy. Quote

The Magnum Trick Worm is a much thicker and I believe a bit longer than a standard trick worm, tends to get bigger bites. Black, Green Pumpkin, Watermelon Candy, and Red Bug would be my colors of choice. YUM makes a good mag trick worm also, as well as the Mighty Worm if you want to go real magnum straight tail worm. I fish those and 7" stick worms on a swinghead with good results at times. Quote
Super User the reel ess Posted August 12, 2021 Super User Posted August 12, 2021 I saw a YT video of Scott Martin saying he used a 7/0 shaky head for his monster worms. Quote
