Crankhead Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 I've got a Humminbird 997c & a 788c gps/sonar units. When they are not being used on the boat, I'd like to find a hard case to keep them in. My buddy has the 788c and got a hard shell Flambeau reel case that works great for him. I've looked at a bunch of reel cases (Flambeau, Plano) but haven't found one that will actually hold both units. The 997 is about 12" x 6 1/2" and the 788 is 7 1/2" x 6". I'm open to all ideas. Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted February 2, 2010 Super User Posted February 2, 2010 I'd find a hard case, perhaps luggage, that is large enough for both units. Then, get some eggcrate foam to line it. be sure to allow room for foam separator to keep the two units from making contact. You can buy hard shelled electronics cases of plastic or metal, but they cost mucho dinero. The foam will also absorb the shocks and vibration of travel, or, shudder, being dropped. Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted February 2, 2010 Super User Posted February 2, 2010 Check out what is available from Pelican. I use the smaller sizes for cameras. Quote
gatorblazer Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 Go to academy and look at their gun cases. I have a case that was meant for 5 pistols or so for around 5 bucks Quote
Super User J Francho Posted February 2, 2010 Super User Posted February 2, 2010 Pelican makes the best electronics cases. They're pricey, though. Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted February 3, 2010 Super User Posted February 3, 2010 I have a separate case for each of the sonar units on my boat. They cost $5 each, maybe less, I don't remember. Anyway, every so often Walmart will have a close out of their small soft sided coolers, or lunch bags. I needed a little extra foam, so I cut some out of an old life jacket I found. They work great as far as protecting my electronics and I know for a fact that no one else is likely to have a neon pink and neon blue electronics case. Quote
Crankhead Posted February 4, 2010 Author Posted February 4, 2010 Thanks for the tips. I did look at Pelican and the 1520 model looks like it might work. Has anyone been able to put 2 units in a Pelican? Quote
