clemsondds Posted August 3, 2021 Posted August 3, 2021 Looking to get a good all around spinnerbait/casting rod. My local shop has these two and both I know are pretty sensitive and have great reviews. Which would you go with for a spinnerbait rod? Looking at target casting mainly with 3/8-1/2 spinnerbaits. Would probably use it as well for other general casting applications. Not asking you to figure out the rod for me though...just asking which you would pick and why. They also have an Imx pro 842mbr but I think that wouldn't be stout enough to set a big spinnerbait hook. Thanks Quote
Super User Solution FishTank Posted August 3, 2021 Super User Solution Posted August 3, 2021 The 783GLX has been my favorite rod for the past 12+ years. I also the 7' MH Legend Elite and it is a souter rod than the 783. Great rod though. But for what you are wanting to use, the 783 GLX would be my choice. Quote
atanger Posted August 3, 2021 Posted August 3, 2021 I can only comment about Loomis and have experiences with the GLX's of 783& 842. btwn the 2 the 783 would be more appropriate but if extra leverage because of length maybe be important, than 842 . a loomis 2 power is quite versatile as I have the glx 842, can it pull 1/2oz spinners, it can but not ideal. Loomis MBR rods are extremely versatile and in my opinion they're great all around rods. I'm on the bank and can only bring 1 rod, MBR all day long. I do have some st.croix rods, but I only use 1 rod for bass: MBR 1 Quote
Scud_Muffin Posted August 4, 2021 Posted August 4, 2021 71MHXF St Croix Legend X, if available, would be very worth considering for you. Great for moving baits but can also fish a jig, kind of a particularly versatile great casting rod. Whippy tip into good medium heavy backbone is a great combo to me. Not sure if that one is even possible but thought I would mention it. Ironically the 7MHF is a good bit stouter and faster than the 71MHXF, despite the XF designation. I would do an MBR over the 7MHF if that were my option, but that 7MHF is a PHENOMENAL jig/worm rod. Quote
KP Duty Posted August 4, 2021 Posted August 4, 2021 My hands didn't agree with the new glx reel seat, but if it fits your hand...go GLX 783/843. Quote

I'm also not a fan of the GLX seats but love the rods enough to keep buying different reels hoping to find something that is comfortable. So far I have found the Alphas and TDZ frames to be the best fits for me. Quote

Ok...you talked me into it Pulled the trigger this afternoon and picked it up. Can't wait to use it. Am I the only one that seems to be drawn to rods <7' for covering shallow water? Just seems to be easier to present the bait more subtle and accurately. Guess we will see how this one goes...probably needs to kick one of my others out...but I am guessing I'll just add on to the craziness.. Thank you again everyone for the advice! Quote

Most of the lures I throw are in the 3/8 oz range and I’m thinking the NRX+ 842 MBR paired w/ a Shimano Aldebaran MGL 50 would be a phenomenal setup. Quote
