Yeah, sometimes I get so excited I forget something important like sunscreen, some tackle I wanted to use or a kayak paddle. Luckily, I fish a couple miles away from my house.

If I'm fishing new water I get more excited than if I'm just going down to my "home port" where the cottage is and getting out on my boat. Even though I do love it down there, I feel like I've fished the heck out of that bay and it's generally the same.

Exploring new waters, using new methods and especially finding fish in those new waters is what still excites me. I just don't feel quite as obsessive over it all anymore now that I have a family and things I just have to prioritize over fishing, without question. So, when I do get that rare fishing day to myself, I'd say I'm pretty excited. I remember when I used to fish every day the excitement switched to "burn out" pretty quick during the summer.

I'm lucky in that I have a lake/pond (it may have an aphotic layer during normal times, but perhaps not during this CA drought, so pond may be more accurate right now) less than ten minutes from my house.  It's heavily pressured so the fishing is difficult, but I stop by whenever I can.  Some days the fishing is easy, but most days it's pretty tough.  Nonetheless, every visit is therapeutic and filled with optimism.

Yes . . . .

I think you get more excited when Lynn is able to join you on a fishing outing though. ;)

Do I still get excited about fishing?  Absolutely!  And I get very excited as I approach the launch to one of my favorite lakes especially if I am fishing midweek and I have the place relatively to myself.  Now, I am usually not excited when I wake up at 3 AM but I have learned that if I go back to sleep I will regret it later.  I have really gotten to the point where I dislike the hassle of hooking up the boat and driving to the lake but once I get there and I am out on the water, I am always happy to be there.  And having a good outing gives me a sense of contentment that lasts a couple days.

On a side note, I'm never excited about the few tournaments I fish.  I am anxious about something going wrong, concerned about boat and fishing pressure, and a little worried about performing poorly.  I enjoy the planning, prefishing, and coming up with a strategy for the day, but the night before and morning of the tournament, I am never excited and often regret even signing up.  If I have a good tournament I'll feel great afterwords.  I've felt this way ever since becoming a boater a few years ago and am leaning towards dropping out of my club and just sticking to fun fishing.

Absolutely. I would be fishing right now but got other requirements keeping me from it. I have had 6 hour days, barely caught anything, especially in the winter, but still come back excited to go back out again. If anything it motivates me to figure the fish out.

I'm at the point now where I don't game, watch tv, or anything else. Haven't played an actual video game aside from mobile in months. I just fish or prepare for fishing.

Literally forgot my kayak paddle yesterday ?. Really funny you mentioned that

Two 8 - 12 hours trips to the lake every week year round and literally everyday/night at my pond for 20 - 30 minutes while my dog rambles. Always excited to fish even after almost forty years of bass fishing.

Oh yes, I get excited even when I get a little nibble and I can tell it’s a dink. Get excited watching MLF, buying more gear, you name it. Fishing is the best. Never gets old.

Do it brother, being stressed/ anxious and fishing shouldn’t go together. I’ll never do a tournament (don’t use electronics anyway so I really can’t), it’s always me vs my PB. ?

I do still get excited, especially if I am planning an early morning outing hoping for topwater action.  However, I haven't been as excited as usual, lately.  In fact, lately, my passion has waned for all of my hobbies.  I build rods and tie flies in my spare time when I'm not fishing.  Once in a while I will build a rod to sell, and I just can't bring myself to even sit down without feeling disgusted about it.  Dunno why, really.  It may just not be my thing after all.  I have a tungsten ice fly business that I've really neglected in the last 4 months.  I really burned myself out last fall/winter with producing baits, and I needed a big break.  I will be getting hard back at it very soon so I can have some inventory to move before winter hits.

I still get excited over the littlest things in bass fishing. One footlong bass is enough to make me happy. Right now I am anxiously tracking my cabela's package containing a new baitcast reel :)

What would be the point if I didn't?

I haven't fished a tournament in decades (as in more than one). I didn't like that it seemed as though every outing had to be a pre-fish of some sort and it just wasn't fun for me. And, I usually just want to fish the way I want to fish without worrying about 'the tournament' results or if someone else is 'in my spot' or all the other stuff. I wouldn't say I'll never fish one again, but I don't see it becoming a regular occurrence. I'm not someone that has to bet on whatever I'm doing for it to be exciting or fun. I'm just wired like that.

My level of excitement is not limited to just fishing.

I wake up excited to tackle the day.

I have a plethora of hobbies that are exciting and the reason they've become hobbies, fishing is simply a part of that list.

During the week after work, absolutely. Super early on the weekend? Absolutely. Any time after 10am on a weekend, absolutely not. I'd rather stay home than deal with the psychos.

Yes and No. I want to be all the time, i'm just not. Unfortunately around here, all the good places are 1-1.5 hour ride, and there are tournaments, every weekend, every where. Now, you may not think this is a big deal, but our biggest lake is 1500 acres, with most between 200-750 acres. 25 boats on a 400 acre lake is no picnic, especially with the small ramps. A lot of them are just single ramps, which really holds things up when Johnny weekender is launching his 25ft cabin cruiser on a 200 acre lake. That, on top of constant boat issues all year, makes me want to go even less.

I have fished for over 20 years and in that time I have caught many memorable fish and I still enjoy fishing for whatever bites whether it is a tiny mosquitofish or a shark that weighs several hundreds of pounds. I do not discriminate any fish I catch since I am grateful for every fish I can catch. I release +99.9% of what I catch as well and do my best to safely release fish.

Yes, always. The worst is times like now, when I’m stuck with other obligations that prevent me from fishing.

Always excited unless I'm dead-on-my-feet tired. Never know what's going to happen. You could lose your favorite lures all in a row and then catch your personal best on the last thing you'd think would work. It's why I love it.

Friday morning 6:00 am, no wind, water like glass, sun coming up over the horizon. Deer at the ramp.

Yes I’m excited!

I probably had 10 pursuits at my peak. Through the years each one has drifted away. Except fishing.  I like to  hunt but just dont have the opportunity I used to.
I dont get much of a chance to get away to fish anymore, but I’m satisfied with living on a small lake with good bass fishing.

Shoot , I still get excited catching a bream, so just multiply that times 10 for a bass…

Nah I'd be pretty annoyed about that too. Boat traffic is never fun, especially if you're on a kayak like me.
